An event of great interest took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Carney, Sr. last Wednesday, November 27, 1912 at high noon, when their daughters, Agnes L. was united in marriage to Mr. Rollie H. [H.R.] Romick of Anita, Iowa, and Sophia Pearl, was united in marriage to Chas. G. Swegle of Steward. The grooms are both prosperous young farmers in their respective vicinities.
At the appointed time a wedding march was played by Miss Olive Carney, sister of the brides. To the sweet strains of music the bridal parties marched under the beautiful arch of flowers and foliage prepared for the special occasion.
The sister brides looked very attractive in their beautiful gowns of cream messlaine silk, trimmed in rich lace and fringe. Each carried a bouquet of bride's roses. The grooms were attired in conventional black. The ring ceremony was used.
The marriage was solemnized by the Rev. Rudolph C. Doenges, of the Steward Methodist Episcopal Church, in the presence of fifty relatives and friends. After the ceremony all partook of an elaborate feast which had been prepared by chef Mr. F. Cadwell of Rochelle, Ill. The waitresses were Misses Grace Thompson, Lula and Alma Wagner, Luella Titus, Thyra and Esther Otteson.
The guests from a distance were: Mrs. Romick of Des Moines, Iowa, mother of the groom, Mr. Sam Carney, uncle of the brides from Pullsade [Palisade, Nevada], Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wise and daughter Ada from Mendota, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swegle from Davis Junction, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Baker of Rochelle and the Misses Thyra and Esther Ottosen [Otteson] of Savannah, Ill.
Rice and old shoes were showered in profusion as the bridal parties left their parental home in the auto to take the train for Chicago, where a few days will be spent arter[sic] which Mr. and Mrs. R.H. (H.R.) Romick will be at home on their farm near Anita, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. G. Swegle, on their farm near Steward, Ill.
Steward and vicinity wishes the happy young couples God's speed and a continued happy life together."
