Another community in Nevada Township is the small hamlet of Nevada, located just west of Dwight on the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad. The hamlet was laid out in 1870 by William Shephard, formerly of Jersey County, Illinois. The first store in the hamlet was opened by E. D. Brown.
