Logan County Weather News

Hail Storm in Illinois.
Atlanta, Ill, May 21. [1860]
A terrible hail and thunder storm passed over this place yesterday, between one and two o'clock, and fears are entertained that the growing crops and fruit have sustained material damage. The direction of the storm was from west to east. Masses of hailstones nearly or quite as large as hen's eggs were seen after it subsided. The storm several minutes before its arrival, announced its coming by a fearful roaring which could be heard for miles.
All the windows on the exposed side of houses were riddled of glass.
The storms was not accompanied by much wind, which rendered it less devastating in its effects than it otherwise would have been.
