Elwin

Elwin, originally Wheatland, changed to its present name on account of a Wheatland in Will county,
was platted in 1859 on land owned by William Martin and Daniel H. Elwood. The village has a general store, an elevator,
a blacksmith shop, one doctor, Joseph Leslie, a Methodist church and a well arranged school house; population about
100. It is located five miles south of Decatur on the Illinois Central Railroad in South Wheatland township in
a very fertile prairie corn and oats producing spot.
