An Old Relic
The original seal of Madison County was discovered by accident the other day. A workman in the court house had rescued it from a heap of junk and was using it for a hammer. It is of brass with a steel die. On the face is a sheaf of wheat with a sickle hanging from the hand, while a plow stands beside it and around the scene runs the following inscription: "COMMRS. COURT MADISON CO. ILL. 1818." [Jonesboro Gazette, Jonesboro, Illinois, 6 Mar 1914 -Submitted by Darrel Dexter]
