CHAPTER XXXIV Page 327 Mason City has reason to be proud of her public schools for here her children are well provided for. In 1860 a frame school building was erected. It was finally decided after a vote, to build a $20,000 schoolhouse in the west addition in 1877. Further room was needed and the beautiful new brick was erected on the east side.
