J. Carroll Adkins State Journal-Register, Springfield, IL, February 16, 1999 KILBOURNE - J. Carroll Adkins, 88, of Kilbourne died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Westabbe Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Saidora, the son of Jody Clay and Emma Jean Butler Adkins. He married Ruby Roberta Collins in 1948 in Virginia. He was preceded in death by a son, Arlie Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a 1929 graduate of Bath-Lynchburg High School and lived in Kilbourne for 50 years. He served on the Kilbourne Village Board for numerous years, including 24 years as the mayor of Kilbourne. He was employed for many years as a fuel truck driver for Shell Gasoline. Survivors: wife, Ruby; six sons, Leroy (wife, Karen) Adkins of Jacksonville, Danny (wife, Laurie) Adkins of Bath, Robert (wife, Janet) Adkins of Wright, Wyo., Jody (wife, Ann) and Gary (wife, Sandy) Adkins, both of Astoria, and Ray (wife, Marsha) Adkins of Browning; four daughters, Christy (husband, Mark) Yow of Chatham, Pelles (husband, Chuck) Thomas and Joyce (husband, Gregory) Ishmael, both of Oakford, and Judy (husband, Terry) Lynn of Williamsfield; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Kilbourne Cemetery. Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Chandlerville is in charge of arrangements.
