Alfred BREMER
submitted by Susan (Powell) Cook
I was a young girl going to Jefferson school about maybe 4th
grade...
The hustle bustle of the Christmas season was upon us... Our school
had been practicing for the upcoming Christmas program. Excitment and
expectations of the season were everywhere you looked...
I had gotten very sick and missed the Christmas program... I was
running a temp of 102.8 and I was a very sick young lady... I had
missed several days of school and had missed the school Christmas
party...
Jefferson was known for having the best Christmas parties and the
most fun a kid could have... I remember being subject to the silent
movies... and alot of comedies and lots and lots of cartoons...
That year a very special thing happened to me... I wont ever forget
this as long as I live... Alfred Bremer got done running his route, He
had stopped by to see my dad to check on me. He told my dad that he
had some Christmas presents for me and he wanted to look in on me...
Alfred came up to the house knocked on the door and asked in that deep
voice is anyone home. Alfred was a man of few words but when he talked
you listened...
He came in and said I brought some things for you from the school and
he gave that to me and wanted to know if he would see me on the bus next
year... (jokingly) I said yes, and I thanked him for just taking the
time to care and just stop in... He wished me well and was on his
way... He did not have to take that time to check on me, but the fact
that he did stays forever in my memory... Alfred Bremer You are not
forgotten!!
