Cecil Wayne Aten died May 06, 1919
Baby Killed by Grindstone
The only child of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Aten, formerly residents of Ray, met instant death in a peculiar manner
near Macomb on Wednesday of last week. The following particulars are taken from the Macomb Journal:
Cecil Wayne Aten, the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Aten, who are employed by Charles Patrick at his
farm south of Macomb, died last evening as result of a heavy grindstone falling on its chest.
There were no eye witnesses, but from the appearance it is supposed that the accident happened in that manner.
The little fellow was playing around the yard when his mother heard him call "Mamma". She looked and
saw he was on the ground with the heavy grindstone lying on him. She lifted it off at once and called to her husband
who hurried to her side. It was seen at once that the little fellow was badly injured and neighbors were called
who gave all assistance possible. Dr. J. W. Hermetet was summoned and arrived as soon as possible, but the little
fellow was beyond human aid.
While no one saw the accident and how it happened will never be known it is supposed he was playing with it and
possibly tried to climb up on the frame. His weight on one side toppled it over and it fell on him, he probably
being partly suspended on the frame at the time.
The parents are heartbroken over the loss of their only child and have the sympathy of the entire community in
their sorrow.
Deceased was the son of Lawrence and Edna Aten and was born at Ray, Ill., Sept. 30, 1916, his age being two years,
7 months and 6 days. He was their only child. The funeral services will be held at the home at 11 a.m. Friday,
conducted by Rev. Parker; interment at Vermont.

Aylesworth
Rushville Times, August 1, 1907
Was a Sad Spectacle.
Macomb By Stander, July 25th: Sad spectacles are common at the undertaker's, but seldom is there a scene so sad
as that seen at Martin's Saturday, when the body of Mrs. John Aylesworth was brought in from Murrayville enroute
to Industry, accompanied by the stricken husband and four small orphaned children.
Mr. Aylesworth is a farmer and he moved from Industry to Morgan county about July 1, and went on the farm of a
nephew, who is owner of a large body of Morgan county land.
The husband had with him four small children, the eldest a boy of ten years old. Down in Morgan county there is
a baby and it was its coming which cost the mother's life.
The father sat at Martin's holding the little girl, staring straight before him the picture of mute despair. "I
fixed the children up the best I could for the journey, " he said when spoken to by a sympathetic bystander,
"All but the little one, which I left down there."
The remains of the mother were taken to Industry on Sunday morning's train, where the funeral was held.
She died on Thursday. Mrs. Aylesworth was in her forty-second year, and is the daughter of John Roudebush; was
born in Schuyler County and lived there all her life until the; recent removal to Morgan county. She is survived
by the members of her immediate family already mentioned, by her parents, and these brothers and sister; James,
Walter, John, George, Edgar, Mrs. Chas. Springer and Mrs. Geo. Brooks, all of the Industry and Littleton neighborhood.

Death of William
T. Black
Canton Weekly Register, Oct. 11, 1900, page 3, col. 4
Squire W. T. Black, a resident of Schuyler County, Illinois since 1825, died of heart disease, on Oct. 3rd. He
died at his home 5 miles from Bushnell, Illinois in his 80th year.
Obituary (reprinted) for William T. Black
died October 2, 1900
Rushville Times, October 4, 2000, page 4, column 1
William T. Black of Woodstock Township, Schuyler County's oldest resident, died at his house Tuesday evening at
5 o'clock. At almost eighty years of age, he was vigorous and active up to the last day of his life and the end
came suddenly, when, without a murmur of pain, his spirit was wafted to the world beyond. On the morning of the
day of his death he had planned to come to Rushville, but not feeling well he concluded to remain at home. He was
about the house during the day and ate a hearty supper. Getting up from the table he lay down on a lounge to read
a paper, and then it was that death came to him.
Mr. Black was without a doubt the oldest resident of the county at the time of his death. Two years after Calvin
Hobart and Orris McCartney, the first white settlers of Schuyler County, came here in 1823, Mr. Black, than only
four years of age, was brought to the county by his parents. His father, Richard Black, moved here from Kentucky,
reaching what was afterwards to be the city of Rushville in November 1825. He purchased of Willie O'Neal for $200
what is now central park, but in less than a year he was "entered out" by the county and sustained the
loss of nearly all he had paid for the place. At the time the capital of Schuyler contained only one hewed log
cabin and stable. When Mr. Black was compelled to remove, to make way for the town site of Rushville he went to
what is now Woodstock Township and took a claim on section 15. When he located there his neighbors were several
miles distant and game was so plentiful it was not necessary to go away from the cabin to kill deer and smaller
game. Mr. Black Sr. remained a resident of the county until his death in 1853. His sons William T., Isaac and James
P. have been honored citizens of the county.
William T. Black was born in Dubois County, Indiana, March 18, 1821. He came with his parents to Rushville in 1825
and for nearly seventy-five years has been a resident of this county. He remained under the parental roof until
he had attained his majority and then he started out in life on his own account. He was united in marriage Oct.
30, 1842, to Matilda Matheny. In 1867, Mr. Black brought a 280 acre farm in Woodstock Township, where he has since
resided.
There were six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Black: Frank P. who resides on the home place; Richard of McDonough
County; Mrs. A. E. Kettenring of Peoria, and Austin and William H. of this county. Harriet A., a daughter, died
some years ago. Besides the family of five children, the wife of fifty-eight years remains to mourn the death of
a faithful, kind and true husband.
During his long life Mr. Black has taken an active interest in politics and has been one of the workers in the
Democratic party for more than fifty years. Nor were his fellow citizens unmindful of his ability as a party worker
for time and again he was honored with township offices and was for many years continued in the office of justice
of the peace of Woodstock Township.

Memorial
Mary E. Brown was born in McDonough county, Illinois, October 18?? {1862} and died in Astoria June 15, 1890, aged
27 years, 7 months and 25 days. She was married to G. W. {George Washington} Brown July ?? {23}, 1878, and he and
two daughters survive her. She was a victim of the dreaded disease, consumption, but she patiently endured her
suffering until death set her soul at liberty. She was conscious nearly to the last, and when she felt the touch
of the icy hand of death she called her husband to her bedside and asked him if he would meet her in heaven. After
receiving from him an answer that gave her a feeling of entire satisfaction, not being able to speak to her children
as she seemed to desire, she kissed them and her husband a last farewell and fell asleep in Jesus, to wait the
resurrection. She dated her conversion to the meeting held in '86 at the U. B. church conducted by the evangelist,
G. K. Little, at which time she united with the church, of which she was a devoted and faithful member until called
from labor to reward. A wide circle of friends and the church of which she was a member sympathize with the family
in their bereavement. The funeral services were held at the U. B. church Monday afternoon and the remains were
interred at Salem cemetery. E. H. Shuey

my great grandmother, Amanda Bryan Wetzel, or perhaps my grandmother, Nettie Wetzel Dean, pasted lots of obituaries

probably around a hundred years old or may be more."
