Two villages were started [in Blue Mound Township] when the branch of the Illinois Central railroad was built in 1884, they being Cooksville and Fletcher. Cooksville was incorporated in 1901. Cooksville now has population of 324. ["Official souvenir program, McLean County Centennial, Aug. 27, 28, 30, 1930" by: McLean County Illinois Centennial Souvenir Program Committee, Harold Lang and Eugene Funk] Northeast of Bloomington, on the Illinois Central Railroad, is located the incorporated village of Cooksville, with a population of 256. The village has a number of retail stores and automobile and other service establishments as well as a postoffice. Through it runs State 165. Cooksville is the principal community of Blue Mound Township, which has a total population of 782. The township was first settled in 1854. Among early arrivals were John Stagner, David Wheeler, Thomas Arnold, James A. Doyle and William L. Barton. [This is McLean County, Illinois by: John Drury, The Loree Co., Chicago, Illinois (1955)]
