Community of Danvers History

The village of Danvers [in Danvers Township] was first called Concord, named by Israel W. Hall, who came from Concord, N. H. Danvers is one of the towns in the county which has a paved street. It has many stores, several churches, waterworks, steam and electric rail service and good schools. The population is 601. ["Official souvenir program, McLean County Centennial, Aug. 27, 28, 30, 1930" by: McLean County Illinois Centennial Souvenir Program Committee, Harold Lang and Eugene Funk] One of the oldest communities in McLean County is the incorporated village of Danvers, located twelve miles northwest of Bloomington. The village was laid out in 1836 by Israel W. Hall and Matthew Robb and at first was called Concord. Today, Danvers has a population of 762. It is the trading and shipping center of a widespread agricultural area specializing in corn, wheat and soybeans. The village is located on the New York Central and Illinois Terminal railroads and on State 9. It is the principal community of Danvers Township, which has a total population of 1,468. First settler of the township was Ephraim Stout, who came with his family from Tennessee in the fall of 1825. [This is McLean County, Illinois by: John Drury, The Loree Co., Chicago, Illinois (1955)]
