CALF SELLS FOR $20,500 At the annual sale in Chicago of the American Guernsey Cattle Club on May 16, 1918, a cow consigned from Drew Ten Brook of McLean sold for $1,000. The cow had dropped a calf only three days before, and this animal was put up at the auction and sold and resold until it brought a total of $20,500, which sum was donated to the Red Cross according to announcement made before the sale began. The calf finally became the property of a man near Chicago. |
