Farley, George C.
CHENOA - George C. Farley, 97, Joliet, formerly of Chenoa, peacefully joined his Lord on Friday (Dec. 5, 2008) at his home surrounded by loved ones. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1910 Black Road, Joliet, with the Rev. William Mitschke and Rev. Loy Schlote officiating. Interment will be in Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Savior Lutheran Church or Christian Youth Center will be appreciated. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, Joliet. He is survived by his daughters, Joan L. Twining and Mary Ann (Karl) Lindberg; his grandchildren, Kristen (Jim) Royer, Erik (Chrissy) Lindberg and Tamara (Mark) Stanley; and seven great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, Eva Royer, Auden, Cade and Harper Lindberg, and Patryck and McKenna Stanley. Also surviving are many nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Bernice A. Farley (2006); his parents; a brother; five sisters; and a granddaughter. George was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and enjoyed being in the company of the children of Our Savior God Squad. He volunteered on several boards in his retirement, including Senior Service Center, Salem Village, United Way, Department of Aging and Caterpillar Retirees. During his younger years, George was a runner and swimmer in high school and was a record-breaking runner at Northwestern University. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling and traveling the world with his wife.

Fillippone, Ruby E. Alsman
NORMAL - Ruby E. Fillippone, 87, Normal, died at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 9, 2008) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Eric Powell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Epiphany Catholic Church or the Humane Society of Central Illinois, both in Normal. Ruby was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Heyworth, the daughter of Charles and Girtie Clark Alsman. She married Louis L. Fillippone on Jan. 10, 1941, in Bloomington. He died Aug. 21, 2004. She is survived by one son, Steve (Peggy) Fillippone, Fort Wayne, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Rose Jepsen, Bloomington; and one brother-in-law, Chuck Fillippone, Mesa, Ariz. She was preceded in death by one brother, Merle Alsman; and three sisters, Dorothy Blevins, Vee McMahon and Florence Craig. Ruby had worked in the stock room for Kresge's department store in Bloomington. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal.

Fisher, Gladys Moncelle Lain
Gladys Moncelle Lain Fisher, 85, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Bloomington and Colfax, died Saturday (June 5, 1999) in Fort Myers. Her funeral will be Wednesday at Fort Myers Memorial Garden Funeral Home. She was born Nov. 18, 1913, in Lexington, a daughter of Earl and Lena Lucas Moncelle. She married Voyle "Mick" Lain. He died in 1950. She later married Robert Fisher. He died in 1973. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Lain (Frank) Nault; one brother, Lloyd (Irene) Moncelle, Lexington; and one sister, Shirley Lee, Lafayette, Ind. Other survivors include her granddaughter, Valerie Carden (John Jr.) Buchanan; two great-grandchildren, Nicole (Brad) Girdley and John Buchanan III; and many nieces and nephews. One brother and one sister preceded her in death.

Francis, Rita Gaikwad
BLOOMINGTON - Rita Francis, born Oct. 18, 1952, wife of 27 years of Desmond Francis, an Episcopal priest at Christ the King Episcopal Church, Normal, and mother of Leah and Aaron, died suddenly and triumphantly on Dec. 4, 2008, at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Calif. She was 56 years old. Visitation will be between 3 to 4:45 p.m. today at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 1210 S. Fell Ave., Normal. A worship service celebrating Rita's resurrection will follow at 5 p.m. at the same place. The celebrant and preacher is the Rt. Rev. Peter Hess Beckwith, 10th bishop of the Diocese of Springfield. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to Christ the King Episcopal Church, Normal. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Rita Gaikwad Francis is the third child of John and Prabhathai Gaikwad of Chikhli, Maharashtra State, India. She was preceded in death by her father, John, and her two older brothers, Prakhash and Pradeep. She is survived by her mother, Prabhathai, and her two younger brothers, Sunil (Alvina and niece, Evangeline), and Vishal (Megha and niece, Mrunali and nephew, Cyril); and her younger sister, Shubha (Basu and nephew, David, and niece, Saniya); and another niece, Priya. Rita was a registered nurse with specialties in cardio and orthopedics. In her life and living, Rita possessed faith "as a grain of a mustard seed," and lived daily with overflowing grace, grit and gumption. Whatever she touched turned into gold and whomever she touched turned into an instrument of grace and goodness for all people. She lived a large life, filled with incredible and contagious joy and laughter and with a heart, head, hands and legs that worked and served; served and worked sacrificially blessing the people she came in contact with at the hospital, in the marketplace, at church and wherever else she found herself. In pointing people towards Jesus and his unshakeable kingdom, Rita was a pioneer, persistent, persevering and passionate. In life and in death, Rita was fearless, faithful and a fighter. Now, she belongs to Jesus Christ and is reaping her "crown of righteousness," hearing the Master say, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of everlasting life."
