Hide Tanning Solution
Anna Cosby Morris
LeRoy
McLean County, Illinois
(Transcribed by: Teri Moncelle Colglazier)
|
One pound potash or ammonium alum
Pour soda salt solution slowly in alum solution (Transcriber Notes: When we initially came across this recipe we had no idea what it was for as it had no "title". But thanks to the great minds at genealogytrails.com we believe we can state that it is a solution to tan hides. As well as not having a title there was also no name on this recipe, however, the writing style is very comparable to Anna Cosby Morris, thus we are attributing it to her.) Anna was born on 2 Aug 1875 in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky to Ryland Dillard & Emily G. King Cosby. She married John Edward Morris (son of Edward and Elizabeth Shepard Morris) in December 1905. They settled in Empire Township, McLean County, Illinois after their marriage, however, the couple soon moved to Jackson, Darke County, Ohio (near Fairfied now Fairborn). After they raised their two children, they moved back to Empire Township, McLean County, Illinois. Anna passed away in LeRoy on 21 Mar 1935. [Moncelle Family Records] |
