Get Your Kicks On Route 66 McLean county's small towns did big business in the heyday of Route 66. Places like Chenoa, Lexington, Towanda, Shirley, Funks Grove and McLean were great little stopovers on that long trip from Chicago to Los Angeles. With the advent of Interstate 55 (that bypassed them), these towns lost a lot of traffic and many of the fine businesses closed. Fortunately, sections of this historic road have been preserved and you can still see a little of those bygone years.
