George McClellan Batterton Newspaper unknown George McClellan Batterton, son of Enoch Batterton and Huberta Clark Batterton, was born in Rock Creek precinct, Menard County, Illinois, March 24, 1863, and died in Springfield, December 17, 1919, aged 55 years 8 months and 28 days. The deceased was unmarried and is survived by three brothers, J. C. of Springfield; E. C. of Los Angeles, Cal.; M. M. of Kingfisher, Okla.; and one sister, Mrs. E. G. Garrett, of Athens. With the exception of a few years spent in the west, the deceased lived the greater part of his life in and near the community in which he was born, being loath to leave the friends and scenes of his early childhood days. He was of a quiet unassuming disposition, forming few friendships but faithful and true to the last, to those to whom he became attached. A great lover of music and fond of jokes, George Batterton will be greatly missed by all his associates. Funeral services were held in Rock Creek last Thursday, Rev. G. A. Wilson officiating.
