William Satterlee
I am trying to find information on my Gr. Gr. Grandfather, William R. Satterlee (photo attached), and have hit “the wall.” Is William the son of Asa Satterlee? Next steps may be to find newspaper archives (obits, birth and marrage announcements, etc.) and county records (birth and death certificates). Where can I go? Here is what I know:
1. William was born 1837 in Montgomery County (I believe). He is listed in the 1840 Census possibly as an infant under Asa. If so, brothers would be Miles and Simeon. Asa was fairly old by 1840 Census and not listed in the 1850 Census. At approximately age 13, William is listed under no family head in the 1850 Census. In the 1860 Census William is listed as married (wife Agnes) and baby daughter.
2. William married Agnes Irvin(g) in August 29, 1858. They had a daughter, Clara Anna Elizabeth, born June 26, 1859.
3. William joined the 126th Illinois Infantry on 8/4/1862, was mustered in on 9/4/1862, left in a hospital in Jackson, Tenn. on 5/16/1863, and died 7/13/1863 in St. Lous.
4. William is buried in Hopewell Cemetery in Montgomery County, Ill.
William's widow, Agnes Irvin(g) Satterle, remarried three times, to a Welch, Tanner and finally Privett. She is buried in Dripping Springs Cemetery near West Plains, Missouri. Contact: Brian Schoenthale

FINKEY-FINKE Hello,
My name is Donna Yavorshak , I am searching on my mother's side for a relative that she knew went by the last name of FINKEY-FINKE.
Old photos I have of this family have written "FINKEY" on back, however it was written in my mother's handwriting.
My G aunt Mae GOSSAGE first married a RALPH FINKEY and their children were :
Ruby P. born abt: 1906
ArchieG. born abt: 1910
Kenneth L. born abt: 1912
In a 1930 Montgomery co census of South Litchfield I ran across this family with May I. White as head of household.
This tells me she had remarried and was divorced again or widowed.(my mother said she remarried to a White)
The last name of her children is what baffles me, it is not FINKEY-FINKE, but says FINKEBINDER on the census.
An Illinois death search came up with a KENNETH FINKENBINDER, not FINKEBINDER, that died in Litchfield on 6-29-1947.
I am confused here and am looking for anyone who may have known of this family and the correct spelling of their last name.
Mae Gossage Finkey-Finke-Finkenbinder and her two sons Archie and Kenneth owned a barbershop in litchfield , Ruby her daughter married a HAMILTON, had no children and appears to have passed away in Litchfield in 1946.
Please help!

I can't seem to find any info regarding several families that resided in the areas of Montgomery, Macoupin, Madison, St Clair Counties. They are the William Weathers family, the Stephen Johnson family, the John Williamson family, the Ruben Minor family and the Refearn family. These families apparently were here by 1829 or earlier and intermarried. Any information at all would be appreciated. Sue
