The General Election took place in this State on the first Monday of August. The returns which we have seen satisfy us that Daniel P. Cook is re-elected the Representative from that State in Congress by a large majority over Shadrack Bond, who opposed him.
The important question of Convention or No Convention for revising the Constitution of the State, with a view, principally, to admitting that introduction of Slaves into the State, has, we are happy to learn, been decided in the Negative by the People, after as full and free a discussion as perhaps ever was had, among any People, on any subject. Died at the residence of his father, in Scott county, Kentucky, the Hon. Daniel P. Cook, lately a Representative in Congress from the State of Illinois.

Senator James Hamilton Lewis will be honored at a reception to be given by the Illinois State Society at Washington, at it first meeting in the new year on January 21. The Illinois Jeffersonian, state wide Democratic paper, has made it's appearance. The publication will be under the directorion of the state central committee campaign and issued monthly and at more frequent intervals during the coming election .
