On March 13, 2002, Steve
Slaughter found the cemetery.
Located on top of a hill and away from public eye. The condition of the cemetery is due to neglect over a long time span.
The
over-growth of scrub trees and sunken graves due to deterioration of the wooden coffins used, bears witness to
that.
Along with vandalism to headstones and distinct signs of grave tampering (attempts at exhumation) has also
played its part. Location and age of burials, late 1800's thru early 1900's, make Mossville Cemetery ruined beyond
repair.
This inventory of headstones was done by Steve Slaughter, © March 13, 2002.
The inventory is grouped by last name.
If they have no headstone they will not be listed here!

This is a United States Geodetic Survey marker. There is a number stamped on it that indicates the elevation above sea level in feet. The arrow should point to the north and there is a warning about destroying federal property. These markers are all over the place, but probably not usually found in a cemetery. Thanks to Dave Wheeler for explaining what this marker is! |
