About the ........
Root a.k.a North Hampton & Moffitt Cemetery Inventory

There are 123 names listed in this inventory which was transcribed August 8, 2001 by Steve from a local inventory that was done in 1959.
After Peggy reviewed it, I re-formatted and linked headstone pictures. Correction have been made when needed to this inventory.

Here are Steve's Notes about this inventory:

Additional 21 graves have been tentatively placed at this cemetery. Without adequate current recordings, this inventory is incomplete.
Several details have been omitted due to fallen grave stones, vandalism, sunken graves, and many years of neglect.

Repeative field burning over the years has darkened many stones. According to local residents, in excess of 25 years ago, young kids "helped themselves to grave stones so they could stand on solid ground & change clothes at the local swimming hole". Why something was not then is anyone's guess. This action, alone, is a felony under current statutes of Illinois law (2001). [refer to Illinois Cemetery Protection Act].
Steve Slaughter, Historical Research of Root Cemetery, Hallock Township, Peoria County, IL, 8/8/2001

Several up-dates have been made to this inventory, since it appeared on-line.  - Nov. 2007 - last up-dated!
