ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES
CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY FOR DISCHARGE
Robert Luke, Private of Captain John C. Armstrong's Company, [C], of the Eighty first Ill. Infantry Regiment of United States Volunteers, was enlisted by Jno. C. Armstrong Captain, of the Eighty first Regiment of Illinois Infanty at Perry Co Ills on the Tenth day of August 1862, to serve three years; he was born in the State of Ohio, is twenty two years of age, five feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, fair hair, and by occupation when enlisted a Farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 days.

He says about the middle of Nov. '62 while at Lagrange Miss was taken with Typhoid fever, was sick six weeks & joined his regiment, was on duty one day, and took measles followed by pneumonia-in Jan was attacked with Erysipelas in left leg and foot, has not been able to step on it for four months.

DECLARATION FOR THE INCREASE OF AN INVALID PENSION

State of Illinois
County of Perry
On this 15th day of January, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and 12 personally appeared before me, a invalid pensioner with in and for the county and State aforesaid, Robert Luke, aged 72 years a resident of Pinckneyville, County of Perry State of Illinois, who, being duly sworn according to the law, declares that he is a pensioner of the United States, enrolled at the Chicago Pension Agency at the rate of $36.00 dollars per month, by reason of disability from being virtiously blind his His Disability has so greatly increased that he is absolutely helpless and bed fast also stone blind lost of mind lost control of bowels and water incurred in the Military service of the United States while a Private of ___________ in John C Armstrong Company (C) 81st Regiment Illinois Infantry. That he believe himself to be entitled to an increase of pension on account of not being able financially to secure a nurse or attendance to take care of him _______ wife is old and sickly and not able to wait on him and he is in need of care as the ________ has bad sores on him and in critical condition sertanly needs help at once.
