      Charles August Horn, the seventh child of Joannes Henricus and Anna Catharina, was born in Schwadorf on March 1836.1
      Like his older brother, Charles also came to the US. According to the 1900 census, Charles arrived in the US in 1854.2
      He was the first of my Horn ancestors to immigrate to America. Charles served three months fighting for the Union in the Civil War. Charles was a Private in 12th Regiment, Illinois Infantry.3
      He married Margaret Smith in Keokuk Iowa in 1863.4
      Charles lived in Du Quoin for many years and raised a family there. He died there on 9 December 1909. He is buried in the I.O.O.F cemetery.5
