Contributed by Delaine Donaldson - From the Decatur Review February 26, 1911 13,310 ENGINES AND ONLY 529 STEAMERS During the year 1910 a total of 13,310 engines passed over the Wabash bridge at Valley City, while 529 steamers and 386 barges passed through the draw. The number of engines over the bridge was the largest in history. The above figures are from the annual report of A. D. Beatty, who has been the bridge watchman for the Wabash at Valley City for the past thirty years. Following is Mr. Beatty's report by months:
The highest stage of water during the year was 12 feet, 11 inches: the lowest 5 feet, 10 inches.
Mr. Beatty makes this report every year.
