Dr. J. A. Thomas, father of Dr J. Smith Thomas
began the practice of medicine in Pleasant
Hill in 1849 and Dr. J. Smith Thomas was
associated with him from 1872 until his death in
1883, since which time Dr. J. Smith Thomas has
been an active practitioner, and has been actively
identified with the business of this section.

THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH


Occupies the site where the first Christian Church in the township was built, and which was blown down during a severe storm in Jul 1883 Prior to the building of this first house of worship the congregation held services in a building that stood on the hill and familiarly known as the "Old Tobacco Factory" The present house was built in 1888 the dedication sermon being preached by Elder Strawn

SWAINSON BUILDING

Was completed in June 1906, to take the place of one that was burned Feb. 18, 1906. The two first rooms are occupied by Milo E. Galloway & Brother with a complete stock of General Merchandise. The third room is Chas Billings' restaurant.


Milo E. Galloway --- Mayo L. Galloway
Milo E. Galloway & Bro., were born and reared on a farm. On May 16, 03 Milo E. Galloway bought the stock of General Merchandise from Billings Bros. and continued in the business until Oct. 15, 1906, when his brother Mayo L. was added to the firm. Since that time they have been very successful and are running a first class store occupying two large rooms, containing everything that can be found in a General Store.

Commenced Business Sept. 19, 2003

The bank has enjoyed a constantly increasing business and its usefulness
and convenience is fully appreciated by the entire community.
It's patrons receive every courtesy and accommodation within the range of
careful banking, and are protected by an individual liability of over $200,000.

Galloway Brothers' Hardware Store, Office of Drs. H.D. and H.C. Fortune,
Messenger Office. Built by N.B. Williams in 1891, who occupied it as a
Hardware and Furniture Store until his death Feb 9, 1896.
George A and John R Galloway purchased it Dec 8 1897

many items not handled else-where in town, for which we give our patrons credit
