DISASSEMBLE 138-YEAR-OLD CABIN FOR VILLAGE

Fifteen members of the Quincy Rotary Club Saturday dismantled a log cabin built near Plainville in 1835 by D. D. Hull, trucked the landmark away in pieces and soon will reconstruct it on Quinsippi Island. The cabin was on the farm of Russell and Vanice Call, a b o u t eight miles southeast of Plainville. The one-time halfway-stop for wayfairers between Quincy and Pittsfield will be the third cabin relocated in the Pioneer Village, under the sponsorship of the Quinsippi Heritage Foundation. The first cabin, moved in April by Carson Pine Scott & Co., is already completed on the island and the second, moved two months ago by the Quincy Kiwanis Club, is in the process of being reassembled. The Hull cabin is the only cabin of 10 now planned to be relocated in the village that has a rock fireplace. (H-W photos).

ROTARIANS LOAD LOGS

Rotary President Charles Younger (left) uses crowbar to pry beam of the cabin onto an endloader. Helping Younger atop beams of the house were Fred Stephan (center) and Ned Broemmel, log cabin committee chairman. City Engineer C. Rodney Baxter (lower right) supervised this phase of the disassembling job from the ground. Marks on the end of each log will assist in the restoration project. The Quincy Park District hopes to pour the concrete foundation this week for the cabin. A total of at least five cabins are planned for the Village by June 1.
