The Oldest House in Pleasant Hill Built In 1840 A log cabin was built by Jacob Turnbaugh for a home for him to take his bride. Jacob came from a family which was among the earliest to this township.
Jacob Turnbaugh was the second son of George Turnbaugh who came here in 1827. George Turnbaugh was born in Washington County, Kentucky and grew up and married there. In 1820 he moved his wife and family to Lincoln County, Missouri.
Jacob and his older brother were born in Kentucky.
This is known to be the first house in Pleasant Hill. A stone where this house once stood is still there. The town was called Fairfield until June 1836, then is was called Pleasant Hill.

She was born 21 Feb 1819 in Pleasant Hill, Pike County, Illinois, and died 6 Jul 1869. He married Samantha Jane Simpson 17 Feb 1871 in Clarksville, Pike County MO. She was born 13 Nov 1839 in Missouri. Children of Jacob Turnbaugh and Abigail H. Collard all born in Pleasant Hill.
