 New Canton High School 1917 Basketball Team Photo contributed by Sara Karnos her grandfather, Merritt Irwin Kendrick, on the far right with the big grin Merritt Kendrick was born 09/05/1900, died in 1985, son of Edward Joseph Kendrick and Isabel McFarland, both originally from County Kildare , Ireland. He bought a farm in Melvin Illinois and lived there with his wife, Marguerite Linn, whose family was also originally from Ireland . Merritt went to college at University of Illinois , Urbana , He drove a milk wagon to pay his tuition. He was a wonderful man, robust, athletic and very friendly. |
