1. "Cemetery Location"

I have a record of a family burial site in Pulaski County.  This graveyard is on private land (still owned by my family).  I would like to know how to report this graveyard to the county so that it can be recorded or at least known about so that it won't be destroyed in the future.  There are no markers at the site, just a stone wall surrounding several graves that used to have wooden markers.  Does anyone know what my next step should be?  The people buried here are my ancestors.  Scott

I am sorry that I don't know what steps to take from here but I am curious - who are your ancestors?  Do you have any names or dates?  I am always looking for more Clark/Suttle/Kennedy/Linsen family members.  Thanks, Sharon

It's nice that someone replied!  Thank you!  I am looking for information on the Manwaring and Bagby families.  I have a couple of postings further down on the page.  Please contact me if you have any links to these surnames.  I will search my database for your surnames!  Happy Hunting... Scott

Are you aware of the books in print about the persons buried in Pulaski Co. Cemeteries researched by Martha McMunn and her friend, both residents of your county?  The Cairo Library must have a copy of these two volumes.............................. Monica Palmer Dean

I don't know if you ever received an answer to your question.
However, I have received a response from the state regarding a different cemetery - maybe if you contact them, they can help you or
lead you in the right direction.

The following is the information I received -

The Office of the Comptroller in Illinois is responsible for cemetery care. You may contact the Cemetery Care and Burial Trust Department by phone, toll-free, at 1-877-203-3401 or by e-mail, ccbt@mail.ioc.state.il.us.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,

7. "Re: Cemetery Location"

I am looking for any information I can find about my mother's family.  She was born in the Mounds City area in 1906.  Her parents were John Alexander and Mary Hayden Roulette.  John died in California and I have visited Mary's grave in Beechwood Cemetery.  I have much info on the Hayden family if anyone is interested in that family that lived in Pulaski Co.  What need is info on the Roulette family.

My grandfather John A. Roulette was born in 1867 along the Ohio River in the America area.  He had a twin brother Abner Charles Roulette.  Their mother was Melinda Amos Bever Keem Roulette from her third marriage to John Roulette, Sr.  Melinda died when the twins were five years old and they were raised by Melinda's daughter Alice Bever Lewis and her husband Elisha. No one seems to know what happened to John Roulette, Sr.  Do you have any record of his burial in Pulaki Co. ??  He may not have died there because family members have said that he worked on the Ohio River.

We also do not know where Melinda is buried.  There are records of her probate, however.  She may be recorded as Melinda Rhoden since her mother Nancy married Thomas Rhoden when Melinda and her sister Mary were very young and they had a daughter Nancy Rhoden, Jr.  We do not know what Nancy's maiden name was (mother of Melinda and Mary), but from an old letter we know that she was originally married to a Mr. Amos.  In the 1850 census of Pulaski Co., there is a young girl with the last name of Amos living with the Rhodens who could have been a relative of her first husband.

By her first husband Abraham Bever(also shown as Beaver) Melinda had seven children.  Melinda's sister Mary married John Holmes and then Richard Buffington.  Melinda inherited her mother's property along the Ohio River in the America area and the last house that she lived in there is still standing and several years when were were in Pulaski Co., we visited with the owner of that house who was a widower.  I can't remember his name now.

Through my grandmother Mary Hayden Roulette, I am related to Martha McMunn. From her cemetery research I know that Mr. Bever and Mr. Keem are buried in Richey Cemetery.  Could Melinda also be buried there and not marked???....

Where They Sleep, Cemeteries of Pulaski Co. Ill- This is reference that gives detailed descriptions of even 1 grave cemeteries in Pulaski Co. My gggrandfather Lewis L. Clanton appears to be the only occupant of Clanton cemetery in Olmsted. The Porter County Indiana Public library has a copy.
