Roger E. Conant

Roger E. Conant, 75, of Villa Ridge, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at 8:30p.m. at the Daystar Care Center in Cairo.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1928, in Tamms, the son of Edward and Louise (PARKER) Conant.

He married Birdie Douglas on Nov. 25, 1948. She survives.

Mr. Conant was a member of the Christian Community Ministry and the United Transportation Union. He was a member of the Cairo Masonic Lodge No. 237 AF & AM, Cairo Commandery and York Rite, Ainad Shrine Temple and was a Life Member of KIM Shrine Club. He was a member of the Illinois Farmers Union.

He is survived by his wife, Birdie Conant of Villa Ridge; daughter, Linda (Bill) Davis of Jonesboro; a son, Gordon (Janice) Conant of Villa Ridge; two granddaughters, Kim (Steve) Bardsley and Rebecca Conant; two grandsons, Marty Davis, and Drew Davis; one great-grandson, Tyler Davis; brother, John H. (Gail) Conant of Flat Rock, N. C.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Zena Rose Calvert and Flora Mount.

Funeral services were Wednesday, March 3, at 11a.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin with the Rev. Ralph Kaufman officiating. Interment was in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Masonic Rites by Cairo Lodge No.237 AF & AM were held at 7 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin.

Memorials can be made to the Christian Community Ministry, the KIM Shrine Club or to the Southern Illinois Pet Society.

Crain Funeral Home in Ullin was in charge of arrangements.
