Gilbert R. Swoboda III
Gilbert R. Swoboda III, 57, of Cairo, died at 5:20 a.m. Friday, Feb 6, 2004 at his home. He was born in Cairo on Oct. 30, 1946 and was an office manager for Gilbert R. Swoboda & Co. Wholesale Liquors in Cairo before his retirement. He was a member of the Cairo Baptist Church, Cairo VFW Post 2649, AmVets, Cairo Elks Lodge No. 651 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. He was a graduate of Murray State University and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. Swoboda is survived by his wife, Linda Swoboda, of Cairo; two sons, Stephen Roy Swoboda, of Scott City, MO; and Gregory Swoboda, of Cairo; his parents, Gilbert R. & Dimple Swoboda of Cairo; his sister, Nancy Doss of Cairo; his uncle and aunts, Fred and Marie McRoy of Cairo, Alice Johnson of Vicksburg, MS; his first cousin locally, Fred McRoy Jr. of Olive Branch and several other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation was at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo where friends called from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Barkett Funeral Home with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment followed in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds, with military honors by the Pulaski County VFW Post #8891 of Mounds, and the United States Army. The Barkett Funeral Home of Cairo was in charge of the arrangements.
