John D. Stephens

John D. Stephens, 90, Charleston, MO, died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY. 

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston with Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Charleston, officiating. 

Interment followed in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Villa Ridge, IL. Casketbearers: Mike Renaud, Bill Bass, Mike Gibson, Charles Edwards, Richard Raithel andPaul Kalstrup.

Mr. Stephens was born November 22, 1908, in Adrian to the late John William an Lelia Ethel Chapman Stephens. 

He moved to Charleston in 1990 from Kansas City, where he had been employed with The Kansas City Star for 27 years and was a member of a Baptist church in North Kansas City. On December 2, 1988, he married Laura Schwieger, who survives of the home. 

Other survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Murray and Angel Schwieger, Charleston, MO; one daughter, Robin Gibson, Paducah, KY: one granddaughter, Jade Elizabeth Schwieger, Charleston, MO; one nephew, Jim Stephens, Foster City, CA; and one niece, Pat Cantrell, Dennard, AR. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
