Mary Alice Stringer

Mary Alice Stringer, age 80, of Ullin, died at 7:19 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2004 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 17, 1921 in Wetaug, IL. the daughter of Leroy and Nannie Bagby Stoner. She married on March 16, 1946 to Charles Stringer. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11,1999.

Mary Alice was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and owned and operated Stoner Funeral Home in Ullin from 1945-1978. After retirement she was organist at the funeral home. She was a graduate of Gupton-Jones Mortuary College in Nashville, Tenn. She was also a bus driver for Century School for 18 years.

She was a member of Cross Road United Methodist Church in Ullin, the Ullin Civic Club and worked in transportation and outreach for Smiles II in Ullin for 14 years.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Marilyn Stringer and David and Laura Stringer; one daughter, Charlene McClendon, all of Ullin; nine grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Mary Alice Stringer were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9 at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin with Rev. John Clark and Rev. Richard Martin officiating. Interment followed in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends called after 5p.m. Monday, April 8, 2002 and on Tuesday, April 9 until time of services at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin.

Memorials may be made to the Cross Road United Methodist Church.
