Leon J. Tomberlin

Leon J. Tomberlin, 78, of Mound City, IL. died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 5, 2004, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Miami, FL, the son of the late James Emory and Stella (LEONARD) Tomberlin.

He was married to Mary Tomberlin, and was a member of the Baptist faith. Mr. Tomberlin was a retired pipefitter, and was a member of the Plumber's Local #519 in Miami.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy Pacific Fleet. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and  the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Wiley, and a brother, James Tomberlin.

Mr. Tomberlin is survived by his wife, Mary Tomberlin, of Mound City; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Laura Tomberlin of Covington, LA; four grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was at the Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City from 10a.m. until service time Monday, Feb. 9th.

Funeral services for Mr. Tomberlin were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at the Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment followed in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge with military honors by the  Pulaski County VFW Post #8891 of Mounds.

At the request of the family, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to a charity of the donor's choice in memory of Mr. Tomberlin.

The Barkett Funeral Home of Mound City was in charge of arrangements.
