Carl Eugene Vaughn
Carl Eugene Vaughn age 74, of rural route 1, Mounds, IL. died very suddenly at 10:50 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2004 upon arrival at the Union County Hospital in Anna, IL. Mr. Vaughn was born August 9, 1929 in Cairo, IL. son of the late James H. Vaughn and Sarah (BAUER) Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn attended the First Baptist Church in Mounds, and was a member of the Pulaski - Alexander County Farm Bureau. He married Hazel V. Bennett on February 17, 1950 in Olive Branch, IL. Carl and his wife, Hazel, operated Carl's Furniture Store near Villa Ridge for nearly 35 years. They retired together in 1997. He was the loving husband, father and grandfather to his wife, Hazel Vaughn of Mounds, and 3 children and their spouses, son Michael and Becky Vaughn, Bethalto, IL, 2 daughters, Carla and Michael Tally, Cobden, IL. and Rhonda and Dicky Tally Jonesboro, IL. seven grandchildren, Amy (Brett) Heflin, Marc (Jessica) Vaughn, Bethalto, IL, John (Rachel) Tally, Jonesboro, IL, Dan (Lee Ann) Tally, Jackson, MO, Nicki (Justin) Graham, Tullahoma, TN, Kristen (Matt) Ahlberg, Makanda, IL, and Ryan Tally, Jonesboro, IL. and six great grandchildren, his mother-in-law, Margaret Jordan, Tamms, IL, brother-in-laws and sister-in-law, Mary (Ray) Chester, Goreville, IL. Charles and (EmmaDell) Bennett, Tamms, Jack and (Shirley) Bennett, Anna, and JoAnn and Bruce Benefield, Tamms, host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Vaughn. Funeral services for Carl E. Vaughn was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Mounds, IL. with the Rev. Stephen Wolf, Michael Vaughn and Rev. Scott Hanner officiating. Interment was in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens, Villa Ridge, IL. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Mounds and after 8 a.m. until the funeral hour Monday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the First Baptist Church in Mounds in Memory of Carl E. Vaughn. Jones Funeral Home, Villa Ridge was in charge of arrangements.
