The Senachwine Pioneer Days Souvenir Book reports that the cemetery was started in 1861 when Peter and Ann Barnhart sold an acre of land to Senachwine Township to be used for a burial ground. There are several markers with death dates of 1840 within this cemetery. It's possible to cemetery was started then but became an official cemetery in 1861. This is an active cemetery, owned by Senachwine Township. The original part of the cemetery (section G) is on the east/south side of the entrance and the most recent burial plots on the west side (sections A-G as well as in section F. The cemetery was surveyed first on the west section (A-G) from north to south, west to east (towards the entrance). The east section (F, G) was surveyed from north to south, east to west. Section G is the oldest part of the cemetery where there are many missing markers. Some people never had markers. Lot owners/lot numbers can be found from a previous survey completed by the Bureau County Genealogical Society in the fall of 1998.
