SPRINGFIELD - Melinda Rose Joni Feiden, 17, of Springfield died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, in Gardner Township. She was born March 8, 1982, in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph D. Feiden and Carol S. Phelps Lasley. Miss Feiden, a lifelong resident of Springfield, was a student at Lanphier High School. She was a customer representative for Best Buy for over a year, and was an employee of Fantastic Flora Creations for three years. She was a Bank One Junior Student of the Week, in the top 10 percent of her junior class, active in track and field, a cheerleader, a founding member of Lanphier High School Spirit Club, a John Hopkins Math Student, student government representative, a member of the Chemistry, Art, French and Jets (Junior Engineering Technical Society) clubs, a member of the Speech Team, and a nominee for the National Honor Society. She was a co-leader for the Girl Scouts of America Troop 142 and volunteered at Braveheart.
Survivors: father and stepmother, Joseph D. Feiden and Cynthia J. Murphy-Feiden of Petersburg; mother, Carol S. Lasley of Springfield; grandparents, Donna M. Feiden of Springfield, and Rosemary and Russell Phelps of Pleasant Plains; great-grandmother, Myrtle Phelps of Beardstown; a brother, Neal C. Feiden at home; three sisters, Loni Golden, Aleta Feiden and Emma Lasley, all at home; a stepsister, Annalesa M. Feiden of Petersburg; and several cousins. Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Monday, First Christian Church, the Rev. Rebecca Ingram and the Rev. Sylvan Knobloch officiating. Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
