THE RUSHVILLE TIMES, 1906
CELEBRATES 92nd BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Jane Walker, one of Schuyler County’s oldest residents celebrated
her 92nd birthday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Dean, on Saturday. Following a custom inaugurated
many years ago, there was a family dinner given in honor of the event and the children who reside in the county
were present. George Montooth of Ray and James Montooth of this city, sons of Mrs. Walker were present, as
well as a number of grandchildren.
Mrs. Walker was born in Ireland, January 16, 1812, and came to this
county in 1851, where she has since resided. Following are her children George Montooth of Ray; James Montooth
and Mrs. David Dean of this city; Mrs. Mary Middleton of Oklahoma and Mrs. Anna Baker of Missouri. Mrs. Walker
has thirty-four grandchildren and fifty-eight great-grandchildren.
The many friends of Mrs. Walker in this county will be glad to know
that she is enjoying most excellent health for a person of her age, Her greatest affliction is the almost total
loss of eyesight, which prevents her from reading or working to pass away her time. But most remarkable of
all is the body vigor and mental activity with which she has been wonderfully blessed. Today her mind is
as bright and clear as it was a decade ago, and with the tender care and devotion of her daughter she is happy
and contented in spite of her failing eyesight.
