  Martin Cook, deceased, was a well-known resident of Astoria.  He was born in Columbiana Co., O., May 7, 1847, and passed his youth in Sandusky Co.  Desirous of obtaining a good education he entered Oberlin College.  In an early day he located in Browning, Schuyler Co., Ill., where he taught the public school as principal, and where he married Miss Ida* L. Bader, daughter of Jeremiah Bader, a native of Germany, who emigrated to this country many years ago and settled in Pennsylvania.  There he married Miss Sarah Thompson.  Mr. Bader moved to Ohio, then to Schuyler Co., where he died.  Mr. Cook taught school for many years of his life in the twons of this county, and latterly was principal of the schools at Astoria.  After a life of usefulness he passed away.  His death occurred May 11, 1879.  He was a man highly respected and esteemed.  Mrs. Cook resides in Astoria.
