I sometimes wonder if Grandfather Owen's orchard didn't spring from
Johnny Appleseed's seed bag. It was planted soon after they began housekeeping
on the farm in 1829. So many kinds of trees and from seedlings too.
Transplanted trees never lived so long or bore so plentifully. So many
of them now not to be found in nurseries. The three large evergreen
trees in his front yard were very old and two of them living yet.
