Obituary for Nancy Ann Nelson Croxton
The Democrat Message, Mt. Sterling, Illinois:
Died Thursday Afternoon After Long Illness
After an illness covering a period of two years, Mrs. W. P. Croxton died at her home in this city Thursday afternoon and marks the passing of one of Mt. Sterling's most estimable women.
Nancy Ann, the oldest child and only daughter of William S. and Margaret A. Nelson, was born at Warsaw, Illinois, July 22, 1850.  The same year her family moved to a farm near Huntsville and here, where her childhood days were spent.  On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1873, she was united in marriage to William P. Croxton.  To this union six children were born, two of whom, Clyde and Margaret have gone before.  Mrs. Croxton is survived by her husband, three daughters, Miss Mary Croxton, of Mt. Sterling, Mrs. William Charles of Toledo and Mrs. James McCabe of Pontiac and one son T. E. Croxton of the city and two brothers, E. D. Nelson of Timewell and J. S. Nelson of Traverse City, Michigan.
When a girl of 13 years she was converted and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Huntsville, and after coming to Mt. Sterling united with the Methodist church of this city.
Of a quiet unassuming disposition her greatest joy was her home, making it a place where her husband and their friends loved to be.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church with Rev. J. W. Dundas officiating, with burial in the City Cemetery.

Death of Mrs. W. P. Croxton
Mrs. W. P. Croxton died Thursday afternoon at her home in Mt. Sterling following an illness of two years.  Her death marks the passing of one of Mt. Sterling's most estimable women, and a former resident of Huntsville township, where she resided on a farm for many years.
Mrs. Croxton was a sister of the late William Nelson of this city, and J. S. Nelson of Traverse City, Mich.
Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters and one son and two brothers.
Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon from the first M. E. church in Mt. Sterling; interment in the Mt. Sterling cemetery.

Obituary for Nancy "Annie" Ann Parish Croxton
Rushville Times, May 22, 1940
Mrs. Nancy  Ann Croxton Died in Rushville Sunday
Mrs. Nancy Ann Croxton, widow of Fred Croxton and a resident of Schuyler County for more that fifty years, died Sunday evening at the home of her nephew, Fred Edwards, in Rushville; aged eighty seven years.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. William R. O'Niell, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Pleasantview Christian Church, with burial in the Messerer Cemetery.
The following obituary was read at the service:
Nancy Ann, daughter of Howard and Cynthia Woods Parrish, was born September 19, 1852, in the state of Indiana and came with her parents to Illinois when but a small child, settling in Schuyler where the remainder of her life has been spent.
On August 29, 1875, she was united in marriage with Frederick William Croxton and during the fifty-two years of their life together, they lived in the same location in Pleasantview where they started life's journey.
No children were born to this union but the laughter of youth has always been a part of her household, where with her husband now deceased, they so tenderly reared three children who were bereft of parents in early childhood namely, a niece Letitia Edwards and Minnie Dobbs Croxton, both deceased and a nephew, Fred Edwards, who survives.  Many were the sacrifices made by "Aunt Annie", as she was familiarly known, and deep were her sympathies for the many known and unknown, who sought refuge at her door and found a welcome, warm and sincere.
Early in life, she united with the Christian Church in Pleasantview where her faith and loyalty have been an inspiration for many.  Always active in the affairs of her church she has made many contributions in various ways after inability to attend services because of failing health and blindness.  Despite this she was always cheerful and bore her affliction with true Christian fortitude.  Her Bible was her constant companion, a source of comfort and sustaining grace.  The pleasure she has gained from its comforting passages has meant much to this quiet unassuming person, who truly knew the meaning of "Christian Fellowship."
After the passing of her brother, Nathan Wright Parrish, three years ago, she has enjoyed the companionship of Mrs. Annie Sipes, who cared for her so faithfully.  On March 1st, 1940, she came to be cared for in the home of her nephew Fred Edwards and family in Rushville and departed this life on Sunday, May 19, 1940, being at the time of her death, eighty-seven and eight months of age.
No near relatives remain of this family, with the exception of nieces and nephews, who with many friends know that this devout soul, released from earthly ties, will enjoy the freedom and joys of an endless Eternity with the Lord.

Obituary for Claire Johnson Beam
Claire Johnson Beam, son of Homer and Edith Beam was born Nov. 12, 1906 departed this life Dec. 26, 1918, aged 12 years, 1 month and 18 days.
He leaves a father, mother, three sisters, Gladys, Beulah and Julia May, one brother, Ralph.
Claire contracted influenza and was very sick only 4 days, when death claimed his young happy life. He was such a bright boy, full of good deeds and the pride of a father's heart and mother's hopes, but Claire has left a bright light to burn forever in the minds of home folks, left here. He was of a disposition to win the love of his playmates and attract men to admire him. He was a true soldier in way of obedience, marking his life at home. His helping hand and wiling feet, which were always ready to help mama and papa will be no more.
Among those of the family, who will miss him most will be his little brother, Ralph, who was his constant companion, wherever he went on his trips thru the woods and across the fields on the farm. Claire was a real boy in every sense of the word growing up to be a real man. But he was called away to other service in the Heavenly Kingdom.  Claire was in regular attendance at the Sunday school and his presence will be greatly missed.
Brief services were held at the home by Rev. Keltner, concluded at the cemetery Sunday afternoon and there under the cover of pure white snow they laid away the form of their loving boy.
Note: He is buried in Bader Cemetery, Browning Township, Schuyler County, Illinois as are his parents.

Obituary for Florence Edna Walker Dace, died June 24, 1988
Rushville Times, June 29, 1988
Services were held Monday at The First Christian Church for Edna Walker Dace, who passed away Friday at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital. Rev. Michael Fitch officiated and burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.
Edna Dace was born February 12, 1900, in Littleton Township, the second daughter of Charles S. and Elizabeth VanOrder Walker. She married Daniel V. Dace on May 28, 1921. He survives. Also surviving are four children, Marjorie Bigham, Elizabeth Forman, Donna Stephens and Charles Dace all of Rushville; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence E. and Charles H., and one sister, Nellie Brown.
Edna Dace was a lifelong resident of Schuyler County, who touched the lives of many people. She was a woman to whom life and the joy of living were very important. She actively particiapted in and supported many worthwhile pursuits, and was rarely a bystander in life.
Education was certainly a central part of Edna Dace's life. She never stopped learning--from her childhood until her last days. For example, when she was 14  years old, she bought  one of the early Kodak Brownie cameras and developing kits and taught herself photography. And even in the last years of her life, she was still checking books out of the library and reading about new topics and ideas. Edna Dace had personal achievements in education, as well. She graduated Rushville
High School in 1918, after writing her senior thesis on why women should have the right to vote. One of her proudest moments was May 28 of this year, when she addressed the Rushville High School alumni banquet at her 70th year reunion.
After high school she went to Western Illinois University. In 1918, the university consisted of one building. She earned a teaching certificate and immediately went to work in country schools in Schuyler County. She continued until she married Dannie Dace and they started their family. And when her children were raised, she knew that she hadn't lost her love for education and so she decided to return to teaching. But she knew that a teaching certificate from 1918 wasn't enough. So at the age of 44, Edna Dace began taking classes toward a  bachelor's degree, which she obtained in 1955.
She shared her love for learning with 4th graders at Washington School, in the East End until she retired. She made learning an adventure for her young students.  For example, she once made tape recordings of Spanish lessons from the radio, then used them to teach herself and her 4th graders how to speak Spanish, even though it wasn't a required part of the curriculum. She loved her students and cared about each of them. Even after she retired, she tutored young students in her home, working patiently with them to help them learn. She always remembered her former students when she'd see them around town, and was delighted when they remembered her.
Another important value in Edna Dace's life was her family. She raised her four children during the Depression and she had to work very hard. She raised a huge garden and canned much of the food the family ate. She cooked and baked and never bought what could be made at home. She sewed all of her family's clothing and still found time to sew for others to earn extra money. For example, she once made cushion covers for every pew in the Presbyterian Church.
But, Edna Dace didn't  mind hard work. She thought it was good for people to work hard and she passed that value on to her children. She adored them and was there to help and support them as they grew up and started families of their own. She constantly said how lucky she felt that, throughout her life, her four children lived nearby and made her and Dannie an important part of their lives. In recent years, she always looked forward to Monday afternoons when her children would congregate for a vist.
As a grandmother, Edna Dace was the best. She had 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren and she had the knack of making each one feel special. This was because she always had time to listen and talk to them. She celebrated their achievements and tried to help them with their problems.  The grandchildren always loved to go to Grandma and Grandpa's Dace's, because they knew they'd get to play games and visit, and of course, have as much 7-Up and cookies as they wanted. Grandma and Grandpa always seemed to want the company of their grandchildren.
The First Christian Church was very important to Edna Dace. She joined the church in 1914, when she was a sophomore in high school and moved from the country to town. At the time of her death, she had been a member of the church longer than anyone else, something of which she was very proud. She raised her children in the church. She taught Sunday School there her entire life. She made cakes and pies and ice cream for church bake sales and ice cream socials. She belonged to the Christian Women's Fellowship. Never in her life did her participation in the First Christian Church waver. Just before she became ill, a few weeks ago, she was still a member of a Tuesday morning prayer group and also attended Sunday services regularly.
Her loyal support to the church was the Christian values by which Edna Dace lived. She always looked for the good in each person she met. She was willing to try to understand and give anyone the benefit of the doubt. She was always gracious and had a sincere and kind word for everyone. She had a marvelous sense of humor. She served as an excellant model for her children and her entire family and she will be sorely missed by all of them.
Memorials for Edna Walker Dace maybe given to the First Christian Church.
