Obituary of Ralph Clayton Stambaugh

Ralph C. Stambaugh of Astoria Dies
Ralph Clayton Stambaugh, 81, of Astoria died Saturday July 1, at
1:18 p.m. in Mason District Hospital at Havana, where he had been a
patient three weeks. Mr. Stambaugh was a retired teacher.
He taught 30 years in elementary and high schools and was teaching in
Astoria at the time of his retirement.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kost
Memorial Home in Vermont. The Rev. Elmer Dadismon
officiated. Burial was in South Fulton Cemetery south of Astoria.
He was born in Woodland Township, Fulton County, June 30, 1886,
to Michael and Sarah Bair Stambaugh. He married Catherine Rebecca
Whereley at Browning Aug. 9, 1908. She survives with one son,
Earl Clayton Stambaugh of Good Hope, five grandchildren, eight great
grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Maggie Walraven of Huron, S.
D. Two brother and two sisters are deceased.

Mrs. Hannah Isabelle Stambaugh Dies Sunday.
Mrs. Hannah Isabelle Stambaugh died Sunday in her home following
an illness of two weeks duration. She was aged 82 years, 9 months, and
12 days.
Mrs. Stambaugh was born May 25, 1871, a daughter of John and
Rachel Sayers Sullivan. She was united in marriage to John Stambaugh on
Feb. 22, 1903, and to them were born five children: Mrs. Inez Palmer,
Astoria; Glen Stambaugh of Adair; Mrs. Rachel Stroops of Monmouth;
Freeman Stambaugh of Astoria; and George, deceased.
Also survives are four stepsons: Harvey, Cleve and John of
Astoria, Charles of Marietta, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Goldie Derry, 14
grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 24 step grandchildren, and four
brothers and one sister, namely: George Sullivan of Vermont, Fred
Sullivan of Good Hope, Thomas, Lemuel and Mrs. Delora Lind, all of
Astoria.
In her youth she was a member of the U. B. church of Oak Grove,
but in late years she attended the Assembly of God church in Astoria.
Funeral services were held this afternoon in the Assembly of God
church, conducted by Rev. F. H. Tollivar, Macomb. Burial in Oak Grove
Cemetery.
Note: Her mother Rachel Sayers is sometimes named as Rachel Sears.

Fannie B. Stambaugh Dies At Age 86
Mrs. Fannie B. Stambaugh, 86, a life time resident of the
Astoria Community, died Oct. 9, at Mason District Hospital in Havana,
following a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 1, 1884 on the Woodland Fruit Farm at Astoria,
a daughter of Rev. Cyrus and Leah Gibble Bucher. She became a
member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren on Jan. 26, 1896 and has
always attended services there; teaching a Sunday School Class most of
the time.
She was married to Geo. H. Stambaugh on June 19, 1904 who
preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1954. She leaves six daughters,
Mrs. Verna Duke of Richmond, Ind., Mrs. Esther Kessler and Mrs. Mabel
Bowman of Astoria, Mrs. Naomi Saffin of Rossford, Ohio, Mrs. Faith
Blair of London, Ohio and Georgia Lee Page of Gibson City, one son,
Mark Stambaugh of Shelbyville, Mo.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Clara
Klinedinst of Astoria, and Mrs. Beula Kettering of Polk, Ohio.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Lam and Mrs. Annie
Blickenstaff, both of Astoria, and one brother Ezra Bucher of Phoenix,
Ariz. There are 34 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren and 13
great great grandchildren as well as a host of friends and neighbors
who near and dear to her.
Preceding her in death were her husband, two sons, one daughter,
two step great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild, three
brothers and four {5} sisters.
..... at the Woodland Church of the Brethren on Sunday, Oct. 11,
at 2 o’clock. Services were conducted by a grandson, Rev. Delbert
Kettering, assisted by Rev. Robert Winkler and Rev. Clinton
Kessler. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery. Musicians were
Violet Wickert, organist and trio, Nedra Bollinger, Sharon Cameron and
Kim Bollinger. Pall bearers were Karl Duke, John Pittman, David
Bowman, Steve Blair, Charles Robert Stambaugh and Jay Pat Page.
A tribute to our mother
Who we all loved so dear
God took her home to Heaven
He needed her more than we did here.
Her life was full of sunshine
So busy all the time
Always so brave and helpful
And courage so sublime.
There is left a place so vacant

Donnie Lee Stambaugh
Donnie Lee Stambaugh, 60, Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Good Hope,
died Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 12:15 a.m., at his home in Tulsa. He was born
Feb. 2, 1944, Macomb, the son of Scott and Rosine Markland Stambaugh.
He married Charlene Small, Rosie Zuspan and June Lewis. June survives.
He is also survived by four daughters; Terri Larson, Bushnell;
Wendy and Brandi Stambaugh, Peoria; Robin Stambaugh, Tulsa, Okla.;
three sons; Tony, Tulsa, Okla. Donnie Jr. and Bill, Peoria; his mother;
two brothers; Randy, Good Hope, and Gary, Galesburg; and 15
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Charles.
He was a truck driver all his life. He belonged to the VFW and American
Legion Association.
Cremation rights were accorded.
Burial will be at a later date at the Good Hope Cemetery.

Former Astoria, Bader Resident Dies
Charles Stambaugh, 90, of Roseville, died at 5:45 Monday morning
at Monmouth hospital, where he was admitted Sunday. He had been
in failing health two years. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Corman Memorial Home in Roseville.
Graveside services and burial will be at the Astoria cemetery at 3:30
p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Stambaugh was born July 12, 1869 in Schuyler County.
He married Lovina Painter in 1893. She died in 1944. He had
resided in the Bader and Astoria communities before moving to Roseville
four years ago to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Roscoe Thomas.
Surviving in addition to the daughters, Mrs. Dewey Workman of
Browning, and Miss Mathilda Stambaugh of Rockford; five sons, Scott
Stambaugh of Good Hope, Howard Stambaugh of Jacksonville, Harley
Stambaugh of Rockford, David Stambaugh of Frederick and Michael
Stambaugh of Perry; 49 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one
brother, Alvin Stambaugh of Bader and numerous nieces and nephews.
Three sons, two daughters, four grandchildren and one sister are deceased.

Amos Stambaugh Dies On July 4
Amos Robert Stambaugh, 64, of 635 South Second Ave., Canton, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, July 4, 1974, at his home.
He was born April 9, 1910, in Astoria, a son of Harvey and Fanny
Bowman Stambaugh. He was married Nov. 16, 1929, in Lewistown to
Hazel Brown, she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Dwain D. and Gordon R. Stambaugh,
and a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy McWhorter, all of Canton; nine
grandchildren and a great grandchild; two brothers, William Stambaugh
of Vermont and Wilson Stambaugh of Astoria, a sister, Mrs. Lydia
Cocklin of Conesville, Iowa, and a half-sister, Mrs. Mae Cunningham of
Vermont.
Mr. Stambaugh was a retired farmer.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Murphy Memorial
Home in Canton with Rev. Stanley Geiselman officiating. Burial
was in White Chapel Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Ada Stambaugh Dies In Kansas
Word was received by relatives in this area Saturday that Mrs.
Ada Hartley Stambaugh had passed away on that day, March 11, at a
Nursing Home in Wellington, Kansas, at the age of 83 years.
Mrs. Stambaugh, a former Astoria resident, was the daughter of
Ely {Eli} and Matilda Hartley. She was married to Frank B.
Stambaugh, who is deceased. Surviving are a daughter, two
sisters, Lucy Van Antwerp of Knoxville and Mrs. Berta Pyle of Ozark,
Mo., several nieces and nephews. Three brothers and two sisters
preceded her in death.

Macomb - Leonard "Bus" Sowers, 76, of 1025 Derry Lane, No. 5,
died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 1992, at his residence.
Born May 24, 1915, in Macomb to Walter and Margaret Olive Thomas
Sours, he married Margelene M. Rhodes on Oct. 19, 1945, in Macomb. She
died April 27, 1986. He also was preceded in death by one daughter,
Rosanne Bullard, four brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Roland (Rebecca) Smith, and one son, Chuck, both of Macomb; and four grandchildren.
He lived most of his life in Macomb. He was a tool and die maker
for King Seeley and later Bower Roller Bearing for several years,
retiring in 1980. He served in the 8th Air Force, 91st Heavy
Bombardment Group, and was a crew member of the Memphis Belle during
World War II. He was a member of Macomb Elks Lodge 1009, Macomb
American Legion Post 6 and Wesley United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Dodsworth-Piper- Wallen
Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Newhall will officiate. Visitation will be
from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in
Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
Memorials may be made to the Bus Sowers Memorial Athletic Fund established at Macomb High School.

Pekin - Donald Clem Sours, 79, of 1406 N. 11th St. died at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at Pekin Hospital.
Born Nov. 14, 1917, in Beardstown to George Clem and Maude
Gorsage Sours, he married A. Eileen Beale on April 15, 1939, in Edina,
Mo. She died Sept. 6, 1966, in Pekin. Two brothers also preceded him in
death.
Surviving are one son, D. Larry of Pekin; one sister, Dorothy Becker of Mesa, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Pekin Elks Lodge
1271 and Pekin Moose Lodge 916. A member of United Auto Workers Local
974 in East Peoria, he worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 37 years,
retiring in 1973 from the East Peoria plant as a truck driver.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral
Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Dr. R. David Goodell will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Private
burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Vilasco O. Sorrells, 83, 404 East Jared Street, Abingdon, passed
away at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at OSF St. Mary Medical
Center in Galesburg.
Born March 25, 1915 near Littleton, IL, the son of John and Amy
Dugger Sorrells, he married Pauline Mercer on March 13, 1939 in
Palmyra, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Giles Sorrells of Dunlap, IL; one
daughter, Loretta Peterson, Avon; eight grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lena Larson of Berwick and Vivian
Ruhl Millard, Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
He farmed near Abingdon for 50 years retiring in 1972. He was a member of Coal creek Bible Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with the Rev. Mike Barr
officiating. Burial was in Abingdon Cemetery.

He farmed near Ellisville, retiring in 1977.

She was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Grant Pass, Ore., the daughter of John and Anna Cheeseman Hale.
She married Ethan Sorrells on Oct. 17, 1921, in Virginia. He died Jan. 6, 1992.
Surviving are four daughters, Lucille Roelle and Barbara
(Roland) Hensley, both of Forrest, Kathleen (Leo) White, Rushville, and
Glenda (Emanuel) Reynolds, Isanti, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, and several
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a stepbrother, a sister and three nephews.
She lived in the Ellisville community and moved to Bushnell in 1977.
Funeral services were at held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Martin-Hollis Funeral Home.
Burial was in Bushnell Cemetery.

at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Born Nov. 9, 1929, in Brimfield to John C. and Ava Hunt
McKinney, she married Glenn J. Smith on Oct. 29, 1977, in Havana. He
survives.
Also surviving are one son, Richard Green of Havana; two
stepdaughters, Brenda Thomas of Newcastle, Ind., and Connie Surratt of
Browning; two stepsons, Ricky Smith of Bushnell and Randy Smith of
Indiana; two brothers, Dave McKinney of Peoria and Ray McKinney of
Havana; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers
preceded her in death.
She was a member of Canton Women of the Moose Lodge 369.

Born June 19, 1895, in Brown County to Warren and Mary Houser
Dixon, she married Hollis W. Smith on Jan. 5, 1915, in Rushville. He
died Feb. 10, 1976.
One son, John W., two brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, James L. of Macomb; one daughter, Rosalie
Markham of Bushnell; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and
two great-great-grandchildren.
She lived in Schuyler County before moving to McDonough County
in 1929. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Macomb,
Scotland Busy Bees and Social Services of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen
Funeral Home. The Rev. Cheryl Colt will officiate. Visitation will be
from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest
Lawn Memory Gardens.

Junior E. "Jake" Smith, 75, of 315 E. Grant St., died at 9:45
p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 1999, at the Heartland Healthcare Center in
Macomb.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1924, in Fulton County, the son of Elzie and Cleva Hamm Smith.
He married Nelda Miller on Dec. 9, 1944, in Taunton, Mass.
Survivors include his wife Nelda; sisters Rosa Fitzjerrells of
Upland, Calif., and Elsie Clapp of Table Grove; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Marie Onion,
Doris Chenoweth Smith, Frances Kendrick and Helen Curless; and brother
Homer R. Smith.
Mr. Smith was an Army veteran of World War II, following which
he worked for the railroad until 1950 when he began farming in the
rural Macomb area. He retired from farming in 1986, and in 1987, he and
his wife moved to Macomb.
Services were Wednesday in the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in
Macomb with Chaplain Ron Green officiating. Burial was in the Harris
Cemetery near Table Grove.

formerly of Canton, died at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at
Roudebush Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Aug. 6, 1920, in Fulton County to Ralph Hiram and Mary Frances Howard Smith, he married Anna Phillips. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert of Farmington and Edward of
Aurora; two daughters, Patricia Deushane of St. David and Debra
McCormick of Peoria; two stepdaughters, Ruth Cozart of Aurora and
Sandra Cozart of Cuba; two sisters, Norma Kaner of Canton and Jean
Martini of Taylor, Texas; 13 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two
great- grandchildren; and two stepgreat-granddaughters. Two brothers
and two grandsons preceded him in death.
He was an equipment operator in the construction industry.
He was an avid private pilot until his health prevented him from flying.
He was a World War II and Korean War Marine Corps veteran.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hurley Funeral Home,
where visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in
Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

He was born March 26, 1929 at Astoria, Illinois, the son of Carl
Nathan and Mattie Leota Smith. He married Theresa Peltier in Conn. in
1951. They were divorced.
Surviving are his father, Carl N. Smith, Galesburg; two sons
Rodney L. Smith, Galesburg and Roger A. Smith, Kent, Washington; one
brother Loren W. Smith, East Peoria, three sisters, Margery Albin,
Galesburg, Maxine Homer, Abingdon and Donna Moore, Peoria, Illinois;
five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.
He had lived in Galesburg and Abingdon areas most of his life. He retired from Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg.
He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean conflict.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday December 2 at Linwood
Cemetery, Galesburg with Rev. David Seitz officiating. Military honors
were accorded with Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Abingdon in
charge.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon was in charge of the arrangements.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne of Beardstown and Lloyd of Auburn;
one daughter, Anna Hollenback of Lancaster, Wis.; eight grandchildren;

Death of Nelson Sherman

Death of Nelson Sherman.
Nelson Sherman, who has been a resident of Rushville since the
spring of 1901, died at the home of his son-in-law, Ed. S. Griffith,
Tuesday at 1 a.m. For several months Mr. Sherman has been confined to
the house from the effect of a paralytic stroke, and while he was in
feeble health his death came unexpectedly, as he had retired feeling as
well as usual.
Mr. Sherman was born in Cooperstown, N. Y., Sept. 16, 1829, and
came to Illinois in young manhood where he engaged in the coal
business. In 1858 he was united in marriage to Miss Mercy Sutton, who
with one daughter, Mrs. Ed. S. Griffith, survive him. From Mt.
Sterling, Ill., Mr. Sherman removed to St. Paul, where he engaged in
the coal business for several years, and from there removed to
Rushville, where he has since made his home.
On Tuesday funeral services were held at the residence,
conducted by Rev. David Jackson, and the remains were interred in the
Rushville cemetery.

RUSHVILLE - Russell L. Sheppard, 62, of 614 N. Congress died at
11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 1991, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in
Rushville.
Born Feb. 16, 1929, in Cambria to James R. and Beulah McNew
Sheppard, he married Daralyn Fries on April 11, 1952, in Crittenden,
Ark.
She survives along with three sons, James R. of Edwardsville,
Ronald K. of Carterville, and Paul A. of Rushville; one daughter, Karen
Ruggeri of Henning, Tenn.; one brother, William of Carterville; two
sisters, Louise Newsom of Milton, Fla., and Dorris Dean of Nashville,
Ill.; and six grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.
He worked at Freeman Coal Co. in Industry and served in the Army
from 1946-47. He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post 4;
Williamson Lodge 802, AF&AM, of Carterville; United Mine Workers of
America 2488; and United Mine Workers of America Family Auxiliary.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blairsville
Cemetery in Blairsville, the Rev. Manuel Jackson officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Worthington Funeral Home,

BUSHNELL - Russell D. "Buck" Shepard, 82, formerly of Bushnell,
died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, April 17, 1998, at Prairie City Nursing
Center.
Born March 4, 1916, in Table Grove to Ernie and Maude Walters
Shepard, he married Venita Hollenback on June 12, 1943, in Palmyra, Mo.
She died June 12, 1987.
He also was preceded in death by one grandson, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Gary of Wyaconda, Mo.; one brother, Wayne
of Monmouth; and three sisters, Maxine Osborne of Bushnell, Melba Paul
of Canton and Dorothy Sinnett of Marietta.
A cement finisher, he lived and worked construction in the Bushnell area most of his life.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Harris Cemetery
in Table Grove. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at Martin-Hollis
Funeral Home.

John William Self, 59, who suffered a paralytic stroke early
Thursday morning, died at his home east of this city on the Star Lane
at 4:00 o'clock last night.
The deceased was born in Brown county and has resided near this
city for the past eighteen years. He is survived by his wife and five
sons and one daughter.
Funeral sevices will be held Sunday afternoon from Independence
Hall in Schuyler county at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. B. P. Archer
officiating.
Interment will be made in the Gillette cemetery.

She married Carroll D. Sears on Dec. 11, 1952, at Jacksonville. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1995.
Survivors include son Kelly (Gwen) Sears of Macomb; daughter
Rita (Michael) Williams of Bluffs; mother, Louise Miller Landes of
Jacksonville; grandchildren Sam and Megan Williams of Bluffs and Callie
and Austin Sears of Macomb; sisters Ruth Shelton and Joann Landes, both
of Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, brother Albert Miller and sister Alma Bergschneider.
She was a member of Oxville United Methodist Church, but
attended the Bluffs United Methodist Church since her husband’s death.
She was a supporter of the Bluffs Athletic Boosters.
Mrs. Sears and her husband owned and operated Sears Lumber Company in Bluffs for 43 years.
Services were Nov. 28 in Mackey Daws Funeral Home at Bluffs with the Rev. John Eisfelder officiating.
Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery near Bluffs.

Norma J. Scott, 81, of Rushville, formerly of Springfield, died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday at Culbertson Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 6, 1908, in Schuyler County, the daughter of
Lewis and Gracie Falkenstein Johnson. She married Clyde E. Scott in
Springfield in 1962, and he died in 1986.
She was an elementary school teacher in Springfield before her retirement.
Mrs. Scott was a member of the Rushville First United Methodist
Church and its choir for many years; Beacon Light Sunday School class;
United Methodist Women; Rushville Federation of Women; Schuyler-Brown
Retired Teachers; Illinois and National Retired Teachers Associations;
Theta Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Lamba Society; and the Rushville Day
Unit of the Homemakers Extension.
Surviving are one sister, Zenita Albers of Owensville, Mo.; one niece; and two nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Roby Funeral Chapel, Rushville. Burial will be in Rushville Cemetery.

Schisler, he married Nelda Hunter on Dec. 23, 1956, in Astoria. She
survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Debra) Dickman
of Meredosia and Mrs. David (Cindy) Casebeer of North Point, Ala.; one
sister, Barbara Morey of Anna; his stepfather, Louis Ebbert of
Rushville; two stepsisters, Shirley Crumley of Canton and Judy Jones of
Rushville; and three grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
He was a technical sergeant in the Air Force, serving from June
6, 1954, to July 1, 1974. He was a financial analyst for the state of
Illinois Department of Insurance. He was a member of the National Rifle
Association and the American Trap Association.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in
Astoria. Marianna Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8
p.m. Monday at the memorial home. Burial will be in South Fulton
Cemetery in Astoria.

Harvey Schisler, 76, of Bushnell, died at the St. Francis
hospital in Macomb last Tuesday afternoon following an illness of about
three weeks.
He was born Dec. 25, 1878, in Fulton county, to Martin and
Amanda (Robertson) Schisler. He worked on farms in the Bushnell
community most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Lora; five children, Mrs. Violet
Walsh, of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Anna Chambers of Bushnell, Mrs. Wanda
Hopping of Vermont, Lester Schisler of Tullahoma, Tenn., Richard
Schisler of Clifton, N. J.; 16 grandchildren; six step children; seven
brothers, John, Martin, Homer, Cooney, Edward, all of Abingdon, Arthur
of Rock Island and Biddie of Bushnell, and three sisters, Mrs. Ida
Danner of Abingdon, Mrs. Amanda McDonald of Astoria and Mrs. Fannie
Voorhees of Ellisville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bushnell
Methodist church with the Rev. A. J. Copeland officiating.
Interment was in the Vermont cemetery.

two-car accident in Peoria, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton
Funeral Home in Augusta.

Augusta.
The accident occurred about 4:15 p.m. Friday when the car she
was driving was struck by another as she pulled out onto Knoxville
Avenue from the Proctor Community Hospital driveway.
Born Aug. 14, 1914, in Hancock County to Frank and Kate Dau
Horney, she married Newell T. Sapp on Nov. 21, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa.
He survives.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
She was a former Augusta area school teacher.
She was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America; Cloverleaf
Chapter 917, Order of the Eastern Star, Peoria, where she was an
officer; and the Peoria Heights Chapter, White Shrine.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Carter of Rock

White Hall - Vivion L. Rutledge, 91, of White Hall died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at his home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1911, in Scott County, the son of Llewellyn
O. and Rose Day Rutledge. He married Velma Ruth Crum in 1934 in Troy,
Mo.; she died in 1991.
Mr. Rutledge was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He worked
for the Illinois Highway Department for many years. He also farmed and
raised livestock on the family farm west of Barrow until his retirement.
He was a member of the White Hall American Legion Post 70 and
New Life Church in White Hall. He was a former member of the White Hall
Masonic Lodge 80.
Survivors: a son, Joseph L. (wife, Glenda) Rutledge of White
Hall; three grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Rutledge of Granite City;
and five sisters, Mary Ellen Glancy of Anacoco, La., Edith Stoops of

Myrtle Cooney Turner. He married Mydonna F. Sheppard in 1968 in

death was an infant son, Walter H. Turner Jr.
Mr. Turner was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a staff
sergeant and retiring in 1975 after 30 years. He later worked for Oscar
Mayer in Beardstown, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the United
Food and Commercial Workers Local 431 and VFW Post 4866 in Waverly.
Survivors: two daughters, Lisa (husband, Mike) Horney and Anita

Standard, he married Ada Wise. She died in 1978. He later married Mary

Surviving are one daughter, Ruth Ann Gill of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A lifetime resident of McDonough County and the Industry area,
he was an insurance salesman and real estate broker before his
retirement.

A. Idelle Standard, 68, of Springfield died at 10:52 p.m. Tuesday at Naples Community Hospital, Naples, Fla.
She was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Roscoe
and Meriba Horney Raper. She married John V. Standard, M.D., in 1946,
and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Standard was a member of the Springfield Bible Church,
Springfield Junior League, Illini Country Club and Sangamo Club.
Surviving are a son, John of Springfield; a daughter, Kristin
Clemmensen of Fairfield, Ohio; six grandchildren; and two brothers,
Harold E. Raper of Eagle Lake, Mich., and Lyle Raper of Normal.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bisch and Son Funeral
Home, with DeWayne Bolin and John Standard officiating. Burial will be
in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Snyder, 85, of Macomb, died at 10:19 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital.
She was born Oct. 24, 1915, in Bethel Township, McDonough
County, to Charles A. and Rhoda B. Stoneking. She first married Louis
L. Toland in 1936. He died in 1940. She then married Frank L. Snyder in
1946; he died Dec. 6, 1981.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to
her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by three
brothers, Amos, Waldo and Everett Stoneking; and three sisters, Mildred
and Maxine Stoneking, and Alleyne Blevins. Dorothy was a member of the
Church of the Nazarene in Macomb.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7 at the Church of the
Nazarene in Macomb, with the Rev. Larry Abbott officiating. Burial was
in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorials can be made to the Church of
the Nazarene.

BEARDSTOWN - Robert G. Seaman, 82, of Beardstown died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
He was born June 18, 1923, in Beardstown, the son of Glen and
Agnes Irene Goff Seaman. He married Fredda Hardwick in 1949 in
Beardstown.
Mr. Seaman graduated from Beardstown High School in 1941. He was
a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving as a marine raider from 1943 to
1947. He received a Purple Heart for his participation in the capture
of Bougainville. He worked for Schultz, Baujan Mill and retired from
Bohn Aluminum in Beardstown as a bookkeeper.
He was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church, Guthrie-Pierce
VFW Post 1239 and BPO Elks Lodge 1007, all in Beardstown, the American
Legion Post in Rushville and the U.S. Raider Association.
Survivors: wife, Fredda; and several cousins.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Alexius Catholic Church,
Beardstown, the Rev. Eugene Weitzel officiating. Burial: Beardstown
City Cemetery.

Scholes, he married Doris Ritchey in Bushnell. She died March 25, 1996.

Loan.
He was a former member and president of the Bushnell Library

He was a member of Bushnell First Presbyterian Church, where he formerly served as a deacon.

Ritchey, she married John H. Scholes on June 11, 1935, in Bushnell. He
survives.

retiring in 1993.

1930, in Macomb, who passed away January 14, 1998.
Her parents and a brother also preceded her in death.
She leaves: a son, Robert Ruth of Dallas; two daughters, Eleanor
Coulter and Virgene Goff, both of Roseville; two sisters, Lois McMullen
and Lucille Perrin, both of Fair Oaks, CA; eight grandchildren and
15-great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Mrs. Ruth worked in a fruit packing plant in
California for several years, and attended the Roseville Christian

A retired Ipava school teacher, Mrs. Myrtle Robinson, 81, died
late Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, in Graham Hospital after an illness of
18 months.
Born April 19, 1887, in Astoria, Mrs. Robinson was the daughter
of Thomas and Nancy Jane (Todd) McLaren. March 12, 1911, she
married Lawrence S. Robinson at Astoria. He died Jan. 18, 1954.
Mrs. Robinson was a member of the Ipava United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include; one daughter, Mrs. Emma Jane Derry,
Galesburg; one son, Berwyn Robinson, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; one sister, Miss
Jessie McLaren of Lewistown; and four grandchildren. One daughter
and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in the

for 15 years.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for Frederic
"Fred" Robinson of Summum who died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday in St. Francis
Hospital in Peoria of injuries suffered Jan.11 in an automobile
accident east of Astoria. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Robinson was born Aug. 11, 1895 in Ipava, the son of Charles
B. and Maggie Shaver Robinson. He was married on May 15, 1925 to
Lanah Wilson, who survives.

Mr. Robinson was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post No. 25 of Astoria.
Rev. Fines Main officiated at the 2 p.m. services in the Shawgo Memorial Home. Burial was in the Summum Cemetery.

Maxine Robertson
Macomb - Maxine Elliot Robertson, 94, formerly of Macomb died at
5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Lake Orion Nursing Home in Troy,
Mich.
Born July 12, 1903, in Colchester to Howard and Lulu Stanton
Moore, she married Colin Robertson on Dec. 23, 1926. He died Oct. 24,
1961. Surviving is one daughter, Mary Lu Robertson of Troy.
She worked at Miner's Book Store and then was a receptionist for Drs. Millett, Durango and Dexter.
She was a member of First Christian Church, where she taught
Sunday school. She was a member of Macomb Fortnightly Club and the PEO
Sisterhood.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at her church. The Rev. Dr.
Daniel Kuhn will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday
at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood
Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to her church or the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Ethel Robertson Of Browning Dies
Mrs. Ethel Robertson, 87, of Browning, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday
at Culbertson Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since
Jan. 8.
She was born in Frederick Dec. 10, 1882, a daughter of Theodore
and Amanda Spiller McFetridge, and was married April 3, 1900, in
Rushville, to Fred Robertson. He died in September, 1959.
Surviving are six sons, Willard, Clarence and Guy Robertson, all
of Browning, J. C Robertson of Beardstown, Wayne Robertson of
Metropolis and Keith Robertson of North Monmouth, Maine; two daughters,
Mrs. Clyde Young and Mrs. Maude Leighton, both of Canton; 13
grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Himmel
of Browning and Mrs. George Meyers of Las Vegas, Nev., and one brother,
Curry McFetridge of Astoria. Three sons and two brothers preceded
her in death.
Mrs. Robertson was a member of First Christian Church of Browning and of its Ladies Aid Society.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First
Christian Church with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Burial was
in Browning Cemetery.

Betty Robertson
PEORIA HEIGHTS - Betty F. Robertson, 67, of rural Chandlerville,
formerly of Peoria Heights, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at St. John's
North in Springfield. She was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Mason County to
Harry W. and Elsie M. Curry Nall.
Surviving are one son, Rodney of Peoria.
One sister preceded her in death.
She was a secretary with the Clark Food Service Co. of Peoria for many years before retiring.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church North of
Chandlerville, where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Friends may
call one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Bethel
Cemetery in Chandlerville. Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in
Chandlerville is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to her church.
