Obituary of Carl Lawler
died: June 23, 1912
Rushville Times, June 27, 1912
CARL LAWLER KILLED SUNDAY
He Met His Death in Runaway Accident Near Beardstown
Carl Lawler, son of John W. Lawler of this city, was instantly killed in a runaway accident at Beardstown Sunday afternoon. The accident happened just after Mr. Lawler and a companion, who was driving with him to Rushville, left the wagon bridge.
Here the horse took fright and bolted, and a tug came unhitched. Carl was driving, and in attempting to fasten the tug he was either thrown out of the buggy or was kicked by the horse, as he plunged headlong over the dashboard. His skull was fractured by the fall and he died almost instantly.
Lee Winningham, who was driving with him, remained in the buggy and finally got the horse under control after it had run three miles on the dump road.
  Had Started To Meet Wife
Mr. Lawler, who has been employed at the Park House in Beardstown for the past two years, had started to Rushville to meet his wife when the accident happened, and the sad news of his death was telephoned to his father and by him sent to Mrs. Lawler, who, with her two children, were visiting in the country.
The many friends of Mr. Lawler in Rushville were greatly shocked by news of his tragic death which came so suddenly. It was here he spent the greater part of his life and he had made lasting friendships among those with whom he came in contact. For many years he was leader of the Rushville band, and as a tribute of loving rememberance his old associates joined with the present members of the band and furnished music at the funeral services held in Rushville Wednesday afternoon.
Carl Lawler, was a son of John W. Lawler, and was born on the farm south of Rushville, Sept. 16, 1879. He was married to Miss Mary Walker in December 1903, and leaves two small children, Rosie and Clyde, aged eight and five, to mourn with the mother in the loss of a devoted husband and father. He also leaves beside his father, three brothers and two sisters to mourn his untimely death, namely: Marvin Lawler of Beardstown, Ray Lawler of Denver, Col., Mrs. Grace Ross of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Bessie Patterson and John Jr., of this city, all of whom were here to attend the funeral.
Short funeral services were held at the family residence in Beardstown on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., and the remains were brought to this city, where services were held at the M.E. church at 2 p.m., conducted by Dr. Royal W. Ennis. The church was filled with friends of the young man, and there were many beautiful floral offerings from Beardstown and Rushville friends. The pall bearers were members of the Eagle lodge of this city, and in the march to the cemetery the Rushville band led the funeral cortege and played .....

Obituary of Joseph Logsdon
died: June 11, 1900
Rushville Times, June 14, 1900
Death of Joseph Logsdon
Venerable Pioneer Passes Away at His Home in Woodstock Township.
Joseph Logsdon, a resident of Schuyler county for more than half a centurty, died at his home in Woodstock township shortly after 10 o'clock Monday night of senile debility. The funeral was held from the residence yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. John Knowles, assisted by Rev. A.H. Hoffer. The interment was in the Naught cemetery.
Joseph Logsdon was born near Richmond, Madison county, Ky., Sept. 6, 1809. He was the oldest child of Wm. Logsdon. In 1826 his father died, leaving to him the care and support of his widowed mother and a large family of children. This duty he faithfully performed.
In 1836 Mr. Logsdon was united in marriage to Lucy Parker, who died May 30, 1892. To this union were born ten children. The surviving daughters are Mrs. Elizabeth Rose of Brown county, Mrs. Sarah Robbins of Schuyler county and Mrs. Ellen Hermetet of Rushville. The surviving sons are Hon. Perry Logsdon, George W. Logsdon, Jacob and Andrew Logsdon, all residents of Woodstock and Bainbridge townships. The deceased are Squire Logsdon, who died in Bushnell, aged 50 years; also Joseph and Martha, who died in infancy. There are also two surviving brothers, G. R. Logsdon, residing near Cooperstown, and Wm. Logsdon, residing near Mt. Sterling.
In 1844 Mr. Logsdon removed to a farm near Cooperstown and in 1865 he removed to the farm where he has since resided. He has been blind and almost deaf for the last six years, but bore his afflicitions with courage and patience. His life was marked by industry and sobriety, those noble attributes which so adorns manhood. As a husband he was faithful, as a father he was kind, as a friend he was trusted, as a neighbor he was obliging and as a citizen he was esteemed. He was a splendid representative of that sturdy class of pioneers who have converted our forest lands into productive farms. He believed in the justice and mercy of God and now that his long and useful life is ended he has gone to that rest which is the reward of the just.
