ZION BOHNEMEIER CEMETERY
Transcribed and Donated by  Richard and Sharon Newton Burnes

Zion Bohnemeir Cemetery

This cemetery is located in Sugarloaf Township of St. Clair County, Illinois and is the
property of Christ United Church of Christ, Dupo, Illinois. It is located on a gravel road
presently called Bohnemeier Cemetery Road. The easiest directions are from the
intersection of Triple Lakes Road and Imbs Station Road. Heading west on Imbs Station
Road it is approximately 3/4 of a mile and the gravel road is off to the right. This is a
very beautiful old cemetery that is well kept and still having burials. Many of the old
stones are written in German, some can no longer be read, and there are also some
broken. Originally the cemetery was laid out in family plots, but over the years it was
necessary to change the size of the plots. Even though it is not laid out in rows we tried
to read it in this manner to insure we didn't miss any. We have used the spelling of the
months as they were inscribed on the stones as we felt this was a wonderful example of
our ancestors learning of a second language. I know very little German, but do know that GOTT translates to God, GEB is born, GEST is died and GEBORNE means the maiden name.
Transcription done by Richard and Sharon Burnes on April 1 and 2, 2000.
