A Man Killed in Venedy.
– On Tuesday morning last, at about 2
o'clock, Mr. Gerhard Stolda was fatally stabbed by George Noedemiller, in the Town
of Venedy. It appears that a Holiday dance was held at Stolda’s house on Monday night, which was kept up
till Tuesday morning, during which both Stolda and Noedemiller got under the influence of liquor. A quarrel
took place between them, and Stolda struck Noedemiller with his fist, but without inflicting any serious
injury. Afterwards Stolda threw Noedemiller out of his Beer house, and followed out after him; in a few minutes
he returned to the Beer house, told the inmates to go for a doctor as he was stabbed, fell forward on his face,
and in ten minutes expired. Noedemiller admitted that he stabbed Stolda and expressed no regrets for it,
as he said that Stolda threatened to kill him, and repeatedly struck him with his fist. Constable Rudolph
Winther arrested Noedemiller and took him before Esquire Mallmann, who ordered him to be committed to the Nashville
Jail, to await his trial at the next term of Circuit Court. Noedemiller is an old man, grey-headed, and had
recently come from Belleville to Venedy. Stolda had lived in Venedy several years, and was generally considered
a good citizen and neighbor, but was rather rough and boisterous when under the influence of liquor.

MAN KILLED. -- We learn that on Sunday night last, a ball was given at
the house of Gerhard Stolte, living near Venedy, in Washington county, close to the St. Clair county line, at which
an altercation took place between the host and one of his neighbors, a cooper, whose name we have not learned,
which resulted in the death of Stolte, by being stabbed
with a knife in the hands of the cooper. The unfortunate man died in a few
minutes. The murderer, after the affray, went home and retired to bed as if nothing had occurred.
Nashville Journal; 14 June 1866
Noedemiller, the man from Venedy who killed Gerhard Stolda, had a hearing before
Judge Bryan last Friday. The evidence in the case was of such a nature as to appear that Noedemiller committed
the act in self-defense, and that Stolda was the attacking party. The being proved to the satisfaction of
the Judge, the prisoner was released on giving $1,000 bail to insure appearance at the next Circuit Court.
