Wednesday - Jan 31 1887 : (Hampton IA)

Wednesday rose early and went to town to trade. When we came home Joe Cora and Baby Bertha Will Mollie (George William Wolf and Mollie Mallory) and children and Bert Mallory were here. Joe and Cora look very natural though Joe does not look as well as he did last Spring when I saw him last. (Joe is Josiah Willard Mallory b 1 Oct 1858, wife Cora Wilkinson b 17 Jan 1864 and daughter Bertha Bess b 20 Jul 1886) They told us lots of news of my old home. Some are prospering some not. Some have died. Among them Lizzie Thoman 19 years of age. Their old neighbors sent them many kind words and blessings to me. It always does me good to think of my old friends in Berlin. Pleasant day. Received a letter from Maggie Niblo of Chicago Girls Training School. Maggie is a noble Christian and no doubt will do a good work. (Thomas Niblo, Maggie’s brother, married George William Wolf’s sister Elizabeth c 1863) May the lord lead her is the wish of her friends. Aunt Libbie sent me some some quilts to use while I had visitors. I did not have enough.
