WILLIAM FAHEY , 87, a resident of Stephenson County Nursing Center, died there yesterday morning. He was a veteran of World War I. Born June 19, 1892, he was the son of Thomas and Margaret (Vale) Fahey. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Helen (Floyd) Long of Freeport. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Schwarz Funeral Home with the Rev. John Kraemer, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

CLARA M. (VALENTINE) FAIR , 84, of 42 N. Mernitz Ave , died Monday evening at Freeport Memorial Hospital following a long illness. (The Social Security Death Index gives this date as February 1983.) She went to work for Wagner’s in 1942, and later retired from Micro Switch in 1964. Born July 7, 1898 in Chicago , she was the daughter of Herman and Ann (Hunzinger) Valentine. She married Lee H. Chambers August 21, 1920 in Chicago . He died March 16, 1972. On December 10, 1973, she married John G. Fair in Clearwater , Florida . He preceded her in death on December 22, 1982. Surviving are two daughters, Rhea Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Patricia (Robert) McGrath of LaSalle; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son and one daughter. Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Baer, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

JOHN G. FAIRM , 86, of 42 N. Mernitz Ave., died this morning at Freeport Manor following an extended illness. (Note: The Social Security Death Index shows his date of death as December 1982.) For 33 years, he was a salesman for Henney Motor Co., and was then employed by Modern Metal Products of Rockford until retirement at the age of 70. During World War I, he served as a lieutenant in the Army. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Excelsior Lodge, a life member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Freeport, and member of Tebala Shrine, and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow. Born October 11, 1896, in Freeport, he was the son of Dr. John G. and Clara (Miller) Fair. He married Adelaide M. Miller who died April 20, 1965. On Dec. 10, 1973, he married Clara M. Chambers in Clearwater, Fla. Among the survivors are his widow; two stepdaughters, for step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas R. Baer, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P. M. Thursday at the funeral home.

LESLIE FARGHER - Freeport’s oldest historian at the age of 103, died Sunday night at Freeport Manor Nursing Home. (The Social Security Death Index gives the date of death as December 1979.) He resided at 655 W. Pleasant St. from 1908 until his recent admission to the nursing home. Born in one of the earliest of the pioneer buildings of Freeport, he lived his entire life in Freeport and attended Freeport grade schools. At the turn of the century, he was engaged in a jewelry business for a short time and then served as office manager for Freeport Water Co. for about 16 years. In 1920 became superintendent of Oakland Cemetery Association and secretary and treasurer of the Cemetery Associating until 1955. He was active in the American Cemetery Association and Illinois Cemetery Associations, serving as one of the organizers and president of the latter. A member of Embury United Methodist Church since 1895, the oldest person and second longest in membership, he was on the church board for many years and the last survivor of those taking official part in the building of the present church edifice. In later years, he researched the history of the church and wrote the only authentic early history of the church. In 1967, he was made an honorary steward of the church and honorary affiliate member of the John Street Church, New York City, the first Methodist Church in America. He served as an assistant supervisor of Stephenson County Board from 1943 to 1957, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Freeport YMCA for many years and was probably the only surviving member of those on the board when the present building was erected. He was grand marshall of the Bicentennial Parade in Freeport in 1976 and was a member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Freeport, and Rotary Club in Freeport. During an interview with the Journal-Standard prior to his 100th birthday, he reflected, “Here am I, a poor urchin so sickly when I was little that they didn’t send me to school till I was seven. I’ve had everything in life, heart trouble and everything. Here I am hitting the 100 mark. I think I’ve lived in Freeport the longest of anyone who was born here.” Born July 9, 1876, he was the son of William and Francesca (Weaver) Fargher. He married Effie Hartman Sept. 30, 1908. She died Jan. 15, 1955. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters. There are no immediate survivors. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. William H Blomberg officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Lions Club Fund for the Blind.

MARY (HUGHES) FAY , widow of the late Alexander Fay and a resident of Freeport for the past fifty years passed away at her home, 709 South Benton Avenue yesterday after several weeks of illness. Funeral services will be conducted at the home at 8 o'clock Monday morning with a requiem mass at St. Mary's Catholic church at 8:30 o'clock. Rt. Rev. C. F. Conley will celebrate the mass and interment will be made in Calvary cemetery. The rosary will be recited at the home at 8:30 o'clock Sunday night. Mary Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hughes, was born at Lena on July 4, 1856. She was united in marriage to Alexander Fay, who passed away in 1924. Four brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving is a daughter Miss Mabel Fay, Freeport. Mrs. Fay was a charter member of St. Mary's court, W. C. O. F., and a member of St. Mary's church. Members of the W. C. O. F and of St. Mary's guild will meet Sunday evening at 8:30 at the Fay home to recite the rosary (Freeport Journal Standard, IL, Page 10, Column 3, March 16, 1940.). She was buried on 18 Mar 1940 at St. Mary's (Calvery) Cemetery, Freeport, Harlem Twp., Stephenson Co., Illinois

MYRTLE FEATHERLING , 95, a resident of Parkview Home, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1986 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Myrtle was a graduate of Freeport High School. Since 1918, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a past worthy matron. Also she was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem since 1919, and a past presiding officer, and member of the Commandery Auxiliary. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. The daughter of J. William and Adelaide (Walker) Meyer, she was born in Amboy on Dec. 1, 1890. She married Clyde D. Featherling on April 3, 1918, in Freeport. He died in 1954. Service will be held in 1 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Mortuary. The Rev. Ernest R. Francis, pastor of Embury United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call tonight from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight at the mortuary.

ALICE (DEETS) FENTON - Mrs. J. B. Fenton, 14 [this age is incorrect since they married 17 May 1883], sister of Mrs. M. S. Owens of Sterling, died at 2:15 o’clock Thursday [01/12/1933] afternoon at her home in Freeport, following an illness of but one week. Pleuro-pneumonia is given as the cause of her death. The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon from the United Brethren church. Burial will be in Freeport. Mrs. Fenton was widely known and much beloved by many people. Before her marriage she was Alice Deets, and was born on the old Deets farmstead, near Coleta, where she was reared and married. She and her husband began housekeeping and living on the Leo Frederick from, southwest of Milledgeville. They lived there for many years, then moved to Freeport, which had been their home since. Mrs. Fenton is survived by her husband, by two daughters, Mesdames Earl Miller and Clyde Young and a son, Frank Fenton, all of Freeport. Surviving brothers are Frank and J. L. Deets of Milledgeville, Arthur Deets of Chadwick, and Harry Deets of Lanark. Sisters who are left are Mrs. Mathew S. Owens f Cterling [Sterling] and Mrs. Irene Tucker of California.

LARRY FOSTER FERRIS , 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ferris, former Chadwick residents, who now reside at 309 School St., Lena, died a 11 a.m. Friday in the Freeport Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for some time. The body was removed to the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, where friends may call after 1 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted in the Amity Lutheran Church, the Rev. Armin Weng, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport. Larry was born in Sterling on May 22, 1946, the son of Lloyd and Violet Eickert Ferris. They lived in Chadwick until a few years ago when the family moved to Lena. He was a member of the Amity Lutheran Church and the Luther League of the church. He was a freshman in the Lena-Win High School and a member of Boy Scout troop 91. Survivors besides his parents are one brother Kerry, one sister, Peggy, both at home; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Minnis Ferris, Chadwick.

ALLAN F. FINK , a former resident of Stephenson county, passed away January 9th, at his home in Hastings Nebraska, following a brief illness. Services were held Jan. 10, from the home os his son, with burial in Hastings cemetery. Mr. Fink was born in Rock Run township in 1850, being the oldest son of George and Eliza Fink, pioneer residents of STEPHENSON county. In 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Minzer, of Davis, and in a few years moved to Nebraska being one of the early settlers of that state. He became a very prosperous farmer. Later in life he retired and moved to Hasting, where he made his home until his death. Those left to mourn his passing are his widow, three daughters and three sons. The children are: Mrs. Joseph Vance, Mrs. Jacob Frisch, of Hastings; Mrs. William Burke, Kansas City, Mo.; Lloyd Fink, Milo Fink, of Hastings; Clifford Fink, Washington, D.C.

Sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive as well as four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Wm. Montsmith, Fairfield, Neb.; Miss Lorene Fink, Hastings; Mrs. Elmer Clingman, Minneapolis; Mrs. John Clingman, Cedarville, Tillman Fink, Hastings, and Daniel Fink, Whistler avenue, Freeport. Mr. Fink was a fine Christian character, having been converted in early life and uniting with the Evangelical church, of which he was a very faithful member. To know him was but to love him. One ever loyal and devoted to his home and all the loved ones in it. Ever ready to perform any duty which would most please those around him.

ELIZABETH (KAUFMAN) FINK - On Wednesday morning at the home of her son, Charles, in Cedarville, Mrs. Elizabeth Fink passed away. About a month ago she was in this place visiting her daughter, Mrs. E.T. Moore, and was apparently in good health. She was loved and respected by all who knew her, and her demise is felt by all. She was born in Lehigh county, Pa., and was aged 81 years. The deceased was the mother of ten children, three of whom are dead, seven children, 2 daughters and 5 sons are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother. Her husband died, about 26 years ago and since that time she has been living with her children. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon, the interment taking place at Cedarville. Rev. Rohland, of the Evangelical church of Freeport, officiated.

ISAAC J. FOLGATE , 1428 South Chicago Avenue , a resident of this community for over three-quarters of a century, passed away this morning about 7 o’clock, death coming while he slept. Mr. Folgate was born in Buckeye township November 2, 1855. he was the son of James and Mary Folgate and his boyhood was spent on a farm. He was married January 9, 1881 to Elizabeth Maye, who passed away January 6, 1926.

He is survived by three children, Mrs. Hugo C. Lukerman, Clarence M. Folgate, who with his wife resided with his father, and Mrs. Louis F, Reinhold, all residents of Freeport ; one grandchild, Mrs. W. L. Kroeger, of Iowa City , Iowa , and a brother, William G. Folgate of Ridott.

For many years, Mr. Folgate was employed by the F. A. Read Co. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Church . Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, at 2 o’clock at the Walker Mortuary. Rev. J. G. Eller, of Sterling , officiating. Interment will be made at Oakland Cemetery .

IDA FRENCH , 83, former resident of Freeport, passed away about 12 o'clock last night in a Rockford hospital according to a message received this morning by her cousin, George M. fugate, 1573 West Lincoln Blvd. Miss French incurred a hip fracture in a fall several weeks ago and later suffered a stroke. She was born in Freeport Sept. 27, 1857, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah French, pioneer settlers in Freeport, who operated the old French hotel, which was located on the site of the present Licondo hotel during Civil war days.

Miss French was educated in the public schools of Freeport and graduated from Freeport high school. She resided in Freeport until moving to Rockford two years ago. Besides Mr. Fugate she is survived by several other cousins, ELmer C. Fugate, Wisconson; Arthua A. Phelps of Rochelle and Mrs. J.H. Knight of Rockford. Services will be held at Rockford 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and burial will be made in City Cemetery,Freeport.

CLINTON B. FURRY - Private funeral services for Clinton B. Furry, 85, native of Freeport who passed away at Rockford, were conducted at 1:15 o'clock this afternoon at Rockford. Rev. O. G. Beckstrand, associate pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, Rockford, conducted the services and interment was made in Cedar Bluff cemetery. Mr. Furry was born May 4, 1855, in Freeport. He resided here until about ten years ago, when he moved to Rockford to make his home with a son. His wife, Anna, passed away several years ago. Surviving are two sons Ray and Guy B. Furry, Rockford.
