BIG CREEK CEMETERY
When the four acres of land was deeded to the Big Creek
Baptist Church, the east part of the land was set aside for Cemetery purposes, and the Church was erected on the
west side of land.
The following Statement of Registration was filed with the State of Illinois:

(Excerpt from Minutes)
"September 7, 1901 - Motion and Seconded that there be a collection taken tomorrow to have the cemetery cleaned
off. Carried.
Motion and Seconded that Brother John LEYERLE be appointed Sexton of the Cemetery at this place for one years
and is to keep the grounds in good condition and present his bill from time to time as work is performed. Carried."
"Motion and seconded that the keeper of the Cemetery take down the wire and sell it and appropriate the money
to the Cemetery Fund." September 1908
"July 7, 1954 - A motion was made and seconded that the Moderator appoint five persons to serve on a Committee
for care of the cemetery. Motion carried."
PLOTT ADDITION
"Excerpt from Minutes"
October 5, 1955 - "It was moved and seconded that the Church receive a gift of 1/2 acre of land from Lee PLOTT
for Cemetery addition. Motion Carried."

On this acreage was buried Brother Hiram PLOTT, Sister Amanda PLOTT, his wife, and their
daughter, Miss Mona PLOTT. Father and Mother of Mr. Harvey A. PLOTT and Lee PLOTT's
Grandparents.
*In February, 1971 the Church voted to underwrite funds for the care of the Big Creek Cemetery. Donations are received
also.

However, the Minutes beginning with the year 1899 to the present date - 1962, are contained in six books, and the
minutes in the first book are well preserved, and easily readable.
During the past 63 years, fifteen men and women have given unselfishly of their time in keeping a written record
of the Business of the Church.
Miss Mae PLOTT served as Clerk twice for an aggregate time of ten years.
Also, Carl SCHUMACHER served twice for an aggregate time of twenty-one years.
