MUSIC IN THE BIG CREEK CHURCH

In the early years no musical instrument was used. The song books were written in shaped notes and harmony was achieved by tuning forks. Mr. PLOTT, our oldest member, states that the first quartet he remembers hearing sing at Church was comprised of his Mother and Father - Hiram and Amanda PLOTT, brother John A. LEYERLE and his wife, Jane LEYERLE. Mrs. PLOTT sang the lead. The name of the song books were "Southern Harmony."

Later an Organ was purchased for Church use and we find the following in our minutes:

1910 - Motion and Second that we elect an Organist. Motion carried. Sister Bessie DARROW, organist and Sister Josie HESS, Assistant.

1916 - Motion and second that Sister Edith PLOTT and Velma CORZINE be elected as organists. Motion carried.

Other members remember that Brother L. W. CORZINE played the organ. Brother Cyrus PLOTT led the singing in the old Church.

From the time the new building was erected, the church used a pian0 in the services. Beginning with the year 1926, the following people have served as Choister and Pianist in the Church:
