Our friend, ELD. S. J. CARLOCK, who had been making a manful struggle for life for more than a year has finally to give it up. He died at San Diego, Cal., on Monday of this week. A telegram was sent us by one of the deacons of the First Baptist church of that city, asking what to do with the remains. We wired back, "Bury him decently. Send his effects to us here. We will put them in the right place." For us to say that Bro. Carlock was an excellent young man and a man of fine spirit would be to say what is unnecessary, where he is known. He will be remembered everywhere--at Ewing and in the churches and the communities where he has preached-as an amiable, generous hearted, noble Christian. We have no doubt he is at rest. He loved God and he loved men. His faith was in Jesus Christ. And he that loveth is born of God and he that believeth on the Son hath everylasting light. It was thought by some that Bro. Carlock had embraced certain views connected with the question of faith healing and mental healing that were not exactly orthodox. This may or may not have been, but no error of the head can take the religion of Christ out of the heart when it is once in the heart. If Bro. Carlock made any mistakes he only did what we all do more or less. He never lost his religion nor his faith in God. We are glad that we ever knew such a nice young man and that we were related to him as we were. Our association with him did us good in many ways, and we hope that in some respects at least, we helped him. "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord; yea, saith the Spirit from henceforth, that they may rest form their labors and their works do follow them." --Transcribed and contributed by Robert O. Grondin, taken from obituaries and newspaper clippings found in the family Bible of Daniel M. Kelley and Sarah A. Ferguson. No dates were given, but believed to be in the 1920s. Dongola, IL--Died at her home in Dongola Tuesday March 18, Miss Jessie W. COPELAND of quick consumption. The funeral was
preached at the Baptist church on Wednesday morning by Rev. S. L. CARTER. The remains were followed to their resting
place by a large concourse of friends and relatives. Jessie has always been a consistent Christian, lived a noble
life and will long be remembered by her many loving friends. The grave was beautifully lined with ever greens robbing
it of its dreariness. Then think of her whose grief is ___ As one not lost-but gone before. As one whose star on
earth is set, But lies in heaven's bright glory. --THE TALK, Mar 21, 1890, contributed by Shauna Williams.

followed. She was a member of the Alto Pass Congregational church, having united with that body soon after its
