Overland, MO--LESTER E. EASTWOOD, was born Nov. 10, 1930 in Alto Pass, IL and passed away at his home in Overland, Oct. 17, 2004; he is survived by his wife, Billie; 1 son, Wesley; 1 daughter, Beverly; 8 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Preceding him in death, 1 son, 1 grandson and 4 brothers. Memorial service will be at Overland Baptist Church, 9303 Midland Blvd., Overland, Oct. 30, 11 a.m. Interment Essex, MO.  --St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) - October 27, 2004 

CATHERINE GREAR ECHOLS


 
Catherine Grear Echols, age 78, of Dongola, died at 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at her residence in Dongola.
She was born Dec. 9, 1921 in Ullin, IL., the daughter of Roy and Lorriane (Harmon) Grear.
She is survived by one daughter, Rosalind Lingle of Dongola; one son, Randy Echols of Dongola; two grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Tom Grear.
Graveside funeral services for Catherine Echols were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 at the American Legion Cemetery in Dongola with Rev. Jay Franklin officiating.
Crain Funeral Home in Dongola in charge of the arrangements.

VAUGHN K. ECHOLS



Vaughn K. Echols, age 69 of Dongola died Sunday, Dec 22, 1991 at 2:10 p.m. at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born October 28, 1922, at Ullin, the son of Horace E. and Olive Ruth Crippen Echols.  He was married to Betty Jo Miller on June 21, 1974.
Mr. Echols was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army as an aerial engineer and was a life member of VFW Post No. 8891.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo of Dongola; a son, Randy Echols of Dongola, a daughter and son-in-law- Rosalind and Roger Lingle of Dongola; two grandchildren;  two brothers, William H. Echols of Law Vegas, NV, and H.E. (Bucky) Echols of Brookport;  two sisters, Vesta Marks and Wanda Ruth Watkins, both of Anna, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother and sister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Crain Funeral Home in Dongola with Rev. Lucien Bozarth officiating.  Interment was in the Dongola American Legion Cemetery, with Military graveside rites conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna.

ELSIE MAE ELLIOTT



DONGOLA - Elsie Mae Elliott, 81, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, at her home.

She was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Dongola to Ralph and Vesta (Fisher) Rider. She married Clyde Elliott on Nov. 30, 1946. He preceded her in death Nov. 30, 2003.

She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. She and Clyde lived in Kalamazoo, Mich., for 32 years and returned to Dongola in 1978. She retired as a sales clerk from Gilmore Department Store in Kalamazoo, Mich.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Kemp of Wellston, Mich.; four sons, Thomas (Carolyn) Elliott of Karnak, Jack (Cheryl) Elliott of Allagan, Mich., Robert (Ruth) Elliott of Dongola, and Fred (Sarah) Elliott of Cypress; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; nine sisters, Violet Ulrich of Cape Girardeau, Deloris Mowell of Ullin, Joyce Inman and Rose Horn, both of Grand Chain, Earline Covill of Scott, Mich., and Marylee Allen of Allagan, Mich., Lilly Houseman of Anna, Sharon Gardner of Jonesboro and Fern Kay Larry of Olmsted; two brothers, Sam Rider and Ernest Rider, both of Dongola; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Lowell and Melvin Rider.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, in Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with Brother David Gilley officiating. Interment will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruth Emery

 Ruth Emery, 83, of Anna died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Union County Hospital.
She was born Aug. 4, 1918, at Pomona, Ill., daughter of Clarence and Mary Ellen Rowan McCann. She and Wilbur R. Emery were married May 18, 1946, in Jonesboro, Ill. He died May 14, 2000.
Survivors include three daughters, Janas Smith of Goreville, Ill., Karen Vaughn of Anna, Marilyn Randol of Wilson, N.C.; seven grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, a brother, three half sisters, and a half brother.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 6 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gregory Randol officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.


BERNICE JOHNSON STEWARD ENNEN



Portland, OR--The funeral for Bernice Stewart Ennen, who was president of the Portland Home Builders Association in 1962, will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Lincoln Willamette Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ennen died Wednesday (June 9, 1993) in a Portland care center of causes related to age and after a stroke on April 17 . She was 92.
Mrs. Ennen was born Nov. 5, 1900, in Lick Creek, Ill. Her maiden name was Johnson. She finished her education in Oklahoma and subsequently taught school. She and Joe Stewart were married April 1, 1922, in Kingfisher, Okla. The couple later lived in Colorado and California. After her husband's death in 1944, she married Henry O. Ennen in North Hollywood, Calif., in August 1947. The couple moved to Wilsonville in 1955 and later lived in Lake Oswego. Mrs. Ennen worked as office manager for the family's construction business, Continental Homes Inc., in Tigard.
Mrs. Ennen was a member of West Linn Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess. She also was past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Ennen died in 1968.
Survivors include her son, Joe J. Stewart of Milwaukee; daughter, Velma St. John of Portland; stepdaughters, Ann Sines of Long Beach, Calif., and Pat Morrow of Barstow, Calif.; sister, Ruth Russell of Riverside, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery.

HOMER A. ETHERTON



HOMER ETHERTON DIES IN COBDEN

Homer A Etherton, 52, of Cobden died at 3:30 a.m. today at his home.  He had been in ill health for many years.  He worked at a Laundromat and carwash in Cobden. 
Mr. Etherton leaves his wife Lillian of Cobden; a daughter, Pamela, at home; a son, Tony of San Francisco, Calif.;  sisters, Mrs. Mae Marcot of Houston, Tex., Mrs. Dorothy King of Cushion, Okla. and Mrs. Helen Rendleman of Cahokia; and brothers, Harvey of Pomona, Robert of East St. Louis and Dennis of Decatur. 
Funeral arrangements are pending at McCarty Funeral Home, Cobden.
